Needlenose are a subspecies of a Pokey,coming in green or yellow, that first appeared in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island. Needlenoses later reappear in Yoshi Touch & Go and Yoshi's Island DS where they still act the same. Needlenoses are small, round-shaped cacti with spikes.

Whenever yellow Needlenoses are thrown at Yoshi, they instantly pop. Green Needlenoses are different as they can be spat from Blow Hards and Wild Ptooie Piranhas and don't pop when they hit Yoshi. These enemies are mainly found on cacti. When Yoshi swallows a Needlenose, the Cactus frowns and produces another one shortly afterward.

Needlenoses have a similar sub-species named Cactus Jack.
