Milli Vanilli was a real R&B duo consisting of Rob Pilatus and Fab Morvan. They guest starred as themselves in the The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3 episode "Kootie Pie Rocks." Princess Toadstool is a big fan of theirs.
In real life, days after "Kootie Pie Rocks" first aired on television, Pilatus and Morvan were caught lip syncing to their music, having performed none of the songs themselves. As such, later airings of "Kootie Pie Rocks" removed any references to Milli Vanilli, and their songs were replaced with different instrumental music.
