- Not to be confused with Mega Monty Mole.
Mega Moles (インディー Indī, Indy) are a large variant of Monty Moles, and make their first appearance alongside them in Super Mario World. Mega Moles are very tough, pack quite a punch, and cannot be attacked very easily. One weakness of the Mega Mole is that a Yoshi has the ability to eat one of these whole. Mega Mole's can be stood on while they are walking. Mega Moles behave just like their smaller counterparts however unlike them, they also sport a pair of sunglasses (though Monty Moles do have sunglasses on occasion as well). Mega Moles live underground as well as in cave areas.
History[]
Super Mario World[]
Mega Moles make their debut in Super Mario World alongside their smaller cousins the Monty Moles, in this game, Mega Moles make their homes in underground caverns, first appearing in Chocolate Island 4. Mega Moles are strong enemies as they are invulnerable to Mario/Luigi's jump attacks as well as the effects of the Fire Flower. However, Mega Moles can still be defeated with the effects of the Cape Feather or a Starman, a Grab Block or a Shell can also do the trick. They are also immune to hazards such as Munchers and spikes and can walk across them without an issue. By standing on a Mega Mole's head, Mario or Luigi can get a free ride and cross the dangerous chasms. Unlike regular Monty Moles, their bigger cousins do not pop out of holes in the ground. Due to their large size, Mega Moles are also among one of the few enemies that can damage the plumbers while they are riding Yoshi upon contact. However despite their size, they can be still eaten and swallowed by Yoshi.
Mario Family[]
Mega Moles are seen yet again in Mario Family alongside various other characters and enemies from Super Mario World this time appearing as one of the drawing designs.
Mario Strikers Charged[]
Mega Moles make a cameo appearance in Mario Strikers Charged appearing as murals on the walls of the pillars of The Sand Tomb.
Trivia[]
- The Presenters in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga have an extremely similar look to Mega Moles.
- Unlike regular Monty Moles, they don't pop out of holes in the ground.
- Mega Moles are one of the few enemies in Super Mario World that can hurt Mario while he is riding Yoshi. (Most enemies merely result in the loss of Yoshi, while a few others both hurt Mario and force Yoshi to run away.)
