A Mega Goomba (巨大クリボー Kyodai Kuribō, Giant Goomba) is a recurring enemy in the Mario franchise. They most commonly appear in the Mario Party series, as bosses.

Profile[]

Physical description[]

Mega Goombas are rare, gigantic varieties of Goombas that are bigger than even Grand Goombas, as well as the biggest Goomba variant overall. Mega Goombas are regular Goombas that have been enlarged by Kamek's magic.

Behavior[]

Mega Goombas are commonly more durable than any type of Goomba and take multiple hits to defeat.

In New Super Mario Bros.[]

One Mega Goomba appears as the boss of World 4. In the beta stages of the game, it is shown that Mega Goombas were going to appear as actual enemies. Mega Goombas could appear whenever normal-sized Goombas made contact with a Super Mushroom.

In Mario Party series[]

Mario Party 10[]

A Mega Goomba appears as a mid-boss. It is the boss of Mushroom Park and is fought during the minigame, Mega Goomba's Ladder Leap. Players must climb the ladders and stomp on Mega Goomba's head as he rampages through the field. Once Mega Goomba's health is depleted to half, he gets really angry and paces around in a rage. Additionally, Waddlewings fly around the arena trying to hit you. Players can stomp on Mega Goomba's head up to 3 times in one shot. After Mega Goomba's defeat, the players earn some Mini Stars.

Mario Party: Star Rush[]

A Mega Goomba appears in the minigame Mega Goomba's Bad Dream in Mario Party: Star Rush. It is seen sleeping underneath an Apple Tree with his stash of Apples. Your goal is to steal more Apples than your opponents and bring them back to the Apple Basket at the start. Every so often, Goombas will come to steal the Apples back from you so avoid them. After 25 Apples have been stolen, Mega Goomba will wake up and become furious and attempt to attack you as you steal more Apples. If he successfully hits you, you lose a point. Once 50 total Apples are stolen, some Butterflies fly by catching the Mega Goomba's attention as he slowly follows them in amazement as the minigame ends.

In Paper Mario: Color Splash[]

Many Mega Goombas appear in Mondo Woods. These Mega Goombas are actually normal-sized Goombas that have been enlarged by Kamek's magic. Mega Goombas are also slightly faster than standard Goombas. Mega Goombas attack by stomping on Mario or jumping on him which can cause heavy damage. Additionally, they are more durable and it takes more damage to bring one down. They are still less threatening than the Micro-Goombas found in Sacred Forest which can be especially deadly when found in Small Goomba Gangs.

Trivia[]

  • Mega Goombas were originally supposed to appear as enemies in New Super Mario Bros. (whenever a Goomba makes contact with a Super Mushroom) but were taken out of the final build however a lone Mega Goomba appears as a boss in said game. Possibly the reason for the removal of this feature was because they game may've been too difficult if certain enemies turned Mega.
