Mega Deep Cheeps (also spelt as Mega Deep-Cheeps) are larger variants of Deep Cheeps that first appear in New Super Mario Bros.. They behave identically to normal-sized Deep Cheeps, pursuing the plumbers if they get close but their larger size makes them harder to avoid. They are commonly seen underwater and like the Mega Cheep Cheeps, are sometimes seen guiding smaller Deep Cheeps. Mega Deep Cheeps have commonly been seen in many of the recent 2D Super Mario series installments.

History[]

A Mega Deep Cheep

Mega Deep Cheeps make their debut in New Super Mario Bros. alongside the Deep Cheep. In this game, they only appear in World 6-5 and are only seen near the end of the level. They behave similarly to the Mega Cheep Cheeps back in World 3 but they pursue Mario/Luigi if they get near them, if the plumbers move away however, the Mega Deep Cheeps will continue along their path. A Mega Deep Cheep can be defeated with the effects of a Fire Flower, Mega Mushroom, or Starman.

New Super Mario Bros. Wii[]

Mega Deep Cheeps return in New Super Mario Bros. Wii, in this game, they are found in World 1-4, World 8-4, and various levels of World 4. They are slightly smaller than they were in the previous game being only slightly larger than a regular Deep Cheep, Mega Deep Cheeps are also seen guiding smaller Deep Cheeps through the waters, they behave as they did previously chasing after the heroes if they come near but they can easily be defeated with a Fire Flower or Starman. They can also be frozen with the effects of an Ice Flower or Penguin Suit, when frozen they slowly rise to the surface which can be used as a stepping stone for reaching higher platforms.

They ended up appearing in New Super Luigi U and New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe in levels such as Cheep Chomp Chase. They behave as they did in previous games, (chasing the heroes when they come near) and guiding smaller Deep Cheeps. They also return to their size from New Super Mario Bros. Wii. They can be defeated with the effects of a Fire Flower or Starman and can once again be frozen with the effects of an Ice Flower or Penguin Suit.

Mega Deep Cheeps appear in Super Mario Maker as well as it's two sequels as placeable enemies exclusive to the New Super Mario Bros. U style. They can be made by either shaking a Mega Cheep Cheep or by dragging a Super Mushroom to a a Deep Cheep. They can also be given wings to become a Winged Mega Deep Cheep. Mega Deep Cheeps behave the same as they did previously in this game (chasing Mario whenever he gets near) however they are slightly more relentless this times. Mega Deep Cheeps can also hop around on land-based levels and bounce higher while engulfed in flames (from the lava) in Castles. A Mega Deep Cheep can be defeated with the effects of a Fire Flower or Starman.
