Not to be confused with Giant Cheep-Cheep.

Mega Cheep Cheeps, alternatively spelled Mega Cheep-Cheeps, are a larger variant of Cheep Cheeps found in several games since Mario Kart: Double Dash!!. Mega Cheep Cheeps are commonly found underwater and are usually seen guiding smaller Cheep Cheeps through the waters, normally, Mega Cheep Cheeps commonly possess the same behaviors as a regular Cheep Cheep but sometimes possess additional abilities such as being able to swallow their targets whole. Whilst commonly appearing in 2D Platformers, Mega Cheep Cheeps have also made several appearances in the Mario Party series as well.

In Mario Kart series[]

Mega Cheep Cheeps make their overall debut in Mario Kart: Double Dash!!, in this game, a Mega Cheep Cheep can be seen one of the three pre-title scenes. During the opening, Lakitu can be seen reeling a Mega Cheep Cheep in on his fishing rod, during which he struggles to keep hold of it due to it's size weighing him down before eventually dropping the Mega Cheep Cheep and flying up.

In Mario Party series[]

Mario Party 5[]

Mega Cheep Cheeps appear in Mario Party 5. In this game, they can be seen in the minigame, Fish Upon A Star. Players are on a star-shaped platform and during the minigame, Cheep Cheeps come raining down, breaking off some of the platform. As the minigame progresses, Mega Cheep Cheeps start showing up which destroy larger chunks. If a player is hit by a Mega Cheep Cheep, they will be stunned and risk falling off the platform for an elimination.

Bridge Works

Mega Cheep Cheeps appear in the Mario Party 7 minigames Fish & Cheeps and Bridge Work. In the former, two players are in a river with many Cheep Cheeps and Mega Cheep Cheeps swimming their way. The two must try to outlast eachother. Whoever is hit by a Mega Cheep Cheep (or Cheep Cheep) first loses the game, in the latter, players need to try to outlast eachother on the bridge with many Cheep Cheeps and Mega Cheep Cheeps making leaps over it. As the minigame progresses, more Mega Cheep Cheeps start showing up, if a player is hit by a Mega Cheep Cheep, they are eliminated immediately, the winner is the last player standing.

Mario Party 8[]

In Mario Party 8, Mega Cheep Cheeps are seen during the ending of the minigame Rowed to Victory. Here, a Mega Cheep Cheep and it's school of smaller Cheep Cheeps can be seen chasing away the losing team as they row away hurriedly. Mega Cheep Cheeps aren't seen during the actual minigame but the smaller Cheep Cheeps appear.

Mario Party DS[]

Mega Cheep Cheeps appear in Mario Party DS during the minigame Cheep Chump. During the minigame, a Mega Cheep Cheep and three smaller Cheep Cheeps are seen dwelling at the bottom of the lake the players are in and will periodically open their mouths creating whirlpools sucking anyone caught in them into their gaping maws. The Mega Cheep Cheep creates the biggest whirlpool. Anyone swallowed by the Cheep Cheeps is spat out and immediately eliminated from the game.

Mario Party 10[]

Mega Cheep Cheeps appear again in Mario Party 10 and are seen in the minigame Cheep Cheep Leap. During the minigame, dozens of Cheep Cheeps, Mega Cheep Cheeps, and Gold Cheep Cheeps take leaps out of the lake water and the players (under the effects of a Starman) must hit them to earn points. The Mega Cheep Cheeps are worth two points making them the second-best to hit.

Super Mario Party[]

Mega Cheep Cheeps appear once again in Super Mario Party. In this game, they appear in the minigame River Survival. If players choose to take the Cheep Cheep Swarms path, they will encounter the Mega Cheep Cheeps, they behave just like their smaller counterparts and take leaps out of the water but their larger size makes them harder to avoid.

Mario Party Superstars[]

A Mega Cheep Cheep appears in Mario Party Superstars in the returning minigame from Mario Party 3 Cheep Cheep Chase replacing the oversized Bub from the original game, the Mega Cheep Cheep behaves identically to the large Bub from the original and chases after the players but it can also swallow the water mines in it's way and inhales players that are directly in front of it making it a slightly larger threat than the Bub. Anyone swallowed by the Mega Cheep Cheep is eliminated from the game effective immediately and the winner is either the last player remaining or whoever escapes the Mega Cheep Cheep first.

In Super Mario series[]

New Super Mario Bros.[]

Mega Cheep Cheeps make their mainstream debut in New Super Mario Bros.. Here, Mega Cheep Cheeps only appear in World 3-1, where they are seen commonly near the level's start guiding some smaller Cheep Cheeps through the waters. Mega Cheep Cheeps are no more durable than a regular-sized and can be defeated with the effects of either the Fire Flower, Mega Mushroom, or Starman. There is also a green, slightly more aggressive variety of the Mega Cheep Cheep called the Mega Deep Cheep and another large variety, the Cheep Chomp makes it's debut in this game.

New Super Mario Bros. Wii[]

Mega Cheep Cheeps return in New Super Mario Bros. Wii. In this game, they behave as they did in the previous game and are seen swimming through the waters of World 1-4 and various levels of World 4. They are commonly seen guiding smaller Cheep Cheeps however this time, the Mega Cheep Cheeps are smaller than they were last time only being slightly bigger than the regular Cheep Cheeps. Mega Cheep Cheeps can be defeated with the effects of a Fire Flower or Starman, the use of the Ice Flower or Penguin Suit can also freeze them and send them floating to the surface which can be useful to use as a platform reaching ledges above. In addition to the Mega Deep Cheeps, returning the Mega Eep-Cheep was intended to make it's debut in this game but went unused.

New Super Mario Bros. 2[]

Mega Cheep Cheeps are back in New Super Mario Bros. 2, here they are seen in various underwater levels such as World 1-5 and several levels of World 3. In this game, they revert back to their larger size from New Super Mario Bros. however this time, they move in an up/down fashion and aren't seen guiding smaller Cheep Cheeps as commonly. Mega Cheep Cheeps are also seen in the waters of World 3-B as Mini Mario runs the waters. Mega Cheep Cheeps are not shown to be affected by the Gold Rings and can be defeated with the effects of a Fire Flower, Super Leaf, Gold Flower, Starman, or Invincibility Leaf. The Mega Deep Cheep also returns in this game.

New Super Mario Bros. U/New Super Luigi U/New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe[]

Mega Cheep Cheeps also appear in New Super Mario Bros. U as well as New Super Luigi U and New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe. In these games, they are commonly seen in levels of Sparkling Waters and slowly follow set paths. They are rarely seen guiding smaller Cheep Cheeps this time and return to their smaller size from New Super Mario Bros. Wii. A Mega Cheep Cheep can be defeated with the effects of a Fire Flower or Starman and can be frozen with the effects of an Ice Flower or Penguin Suit to rise to the surface of the water. Mega Deep Cheeps and Mega Eep-Cheeps also appear in this game with the latter make it's debut.

Super Mario Maker/Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS/Super Mario Maker 2[]

Mega Cheep Cheeps appear in Super Mario Maker as well as it's two sequels as placeable enemies. In these games, they can be made by dragging a Super Mushroom to a Cheep Cheep. A Mega Cheep Cheep can be given wings to become a Winged Mega Cheep Cheep, Mega Cheep Cheeps are commonly seen swimming but on land, they hop around before making high periodic leaps (even if there is no water below), in the castles, they are engulfed in flames from the lava, jump higher, and are hazardous to touch. Mega Cheep Cheeps can be defeated with stomps (only if not underwater) or the effects of a Fire Flower or Starman. A Mega Cheep Cheep can be shaken to be changed into a different sub-species depending on the style that is set, Mega Green Cheep Cheeps for the Super Mario Bros. and Super Mario Bros. 3 styles, Mega Blurps for the Super Mario World style, and Mega Deep Cheeps for the New Super Mario Bros. U style.

In Paper Mario series[]

A larger Mega Cheep Cheep called Big Cheep Cheep appears as a mini boss in Paper Mario: Sticker Star, it is fought in Surfshine Harbor.

Paper Mario: The Origami King[]

World's Largest Cheep Cheep

Mario has just caught the biggest Mega Cheep Cheep in the sea, The Legendary Cheep Cheep.

Mega Cheep Cheeps are seen in Paper Mario: The Origami King where they can be fished from Shogun Studios or Full Moon Island. If Mario catches one with his fishing rod, he will be rewarded with Coins however in some cases, it may be a Ninji in disguise however this will still reward Mario with 100 Coins. Mario can earn the Fish Finder Trophy by catching the Legendary Cheep Cheep (the biggest Mega Cheep Cheep) alongside the Legendary Blooper (the biggest Mega Blooper).

  • In the New Super Mario Bros. series, Mega Cheep Cheeps are not shown to be able to jump outside of water despite doing so in other appearances such as the Mario Party series.
