The Mecha-Blooper is an enemy type that can be found in certain parts of Oho Ocean (more specifically that area's seabed in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga and its remake Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions.

As their name implies, Mecha-Boopers are robots designed to resemble the standard Blooper, but instead of normal tentacles, Bullet Bills poke from the robot's bottom, with their colour being desaturated somewhat.

In Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga/Bowser's Minions[]

They are only found in battles with Cheep-Cheeps, Puffer-Cheeps, Spiny Cheep-Cheeps, and/or Starkisses. Mecha-Bloopers only attack by firing their Bullet Bills towards Mario and Luigi. This can be avoided by jumping. Stomping a Bullet Bill counts as countering the attack for the purposes of Badges that are affected by counters. However, if it had fired all its Bullet Bills prior, the Mecha-Blooper must spend a turn to reload. Luigi's Thunderhand can fry these enemies' circuits, dealing more damage to them. Attacking the Mecha-Bloopers incites their wrath, giving them an extra turn to fire their Bullet Bills if they have any.

In the Nintendo 3DS remake, they shoot missiles that have shark faces, rather than actual bullet bills, but this is a cosmetic difference.

Nomenclature[]

Mecha Bloopers have their name literally translated in most languages:

  • Japanese: Meka Gessō; written メカゲッソー (Gessō, written ゲッソー, refers to the base Blooper, being the nickname-like form of the word geso ("squid tentacles"; written 下足).), while Meka is a transliteration of "mecha.")
  • Spanish: Mecablooper
  • Portuguese: Mecablooper
  • French: Méca Bloups
  • Chinese: Jīxiè Wūzéi Guài; written 机械乌贼怪 (Wūzéi Guài (written 乌贼怪), referring to the base Blooper, means "squid monster," while Jīxiè (written 机械) means "mecha.")
  • Korean: Meka Jing-o-jing-o; written 메카징오징오 (Jing-o Jing-o refers to the base Blooper, while Meka is a transliteration of "mecha.")

German and Italian break this trend, with their respective translations being Roboblooper (combination of "robot" and "blooper") and Calamàtico (combination of Calamako ("blooper") or Calamaro ("squid") and the typical mechanical-indicating suffix -mático.)
