"Mario and Joliet" is the twenty-third animated episode of The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!. It is paired with the live-action segment is "Captain Lou Is Missing" in original airings and "Fake Bro" in subsequent airings, home media, and digital releases.

Plot[]

Mario, Luigi, Princess Toadstool and Toad arrive in the Land of Romance in response to a distress call from the Princess' friend Joliet. When they arrive, they find the land is being ravaged by groups of Snifits. After a few close calls, the group dives into the sewers where they discover Joliet and Romero. They explain that they were scheduled to be married but King Koopa has started a feud between their families and now their fathers forbid them to marry.

Princess Toadstool goes into the middle of the battle and calls for the fathers of Romero and Joliet to come before her. Using her imperial authority she orders the fighting to cease and that Romero and Joliet are to marry. The fathers reluctantly agree.

King Koopa watches this union on his magic mirror and is upset because he's been making quite a profit arms dealing to both sides. His reflection gets the idea that he should kidnap Joliet and blame it on Romero's family. King Koopa agrees to the idea and sends out an Albatoss.

Back at the church, Joliet eagerly prepares for her wedding. However, before she can leave the Albatoss flies in and captures her. Toad attempts to save her but is unsuccessful. Distressed at the situation, Toad races to report the tragedy to the Marios. The feuding fathers each blame each other for the incident and the feud starts again. Romero, determined to get Joliet back, shows the Marios a secret way out of the church and the group goes to storm King Koopa's castle.

After getting across the Trouter-infested moat, the group is captured in a net and thrown into the dungeon along with Joliet. King Koopa leaves them under the guard of his "Super Troopa" (a tall, strong Koopa Troopa). After observing the Super Troopa lift weights he gets an idea and starts mocking the Troopa's lack of strength. Determined to prove its strength the Troopa lifts three barbells at once and falls through the floor. Though the guard has been taken care of, he also had the key to the room. Fortunately, Joliet still has her bouquet of flowers which happen to be Fire Flowers. Mario becomes Super Mario and frees the group.

King Koopa tries to stop the group from escaping with a pack of Koopa Troopas, but Mario holds them off while his companions make a cart with the barbells and a door. They ride out to freedom.

Back in the city, Romero and Joliet are married and it seems the feud is over but after a dispute over where the kids will live, the two fathers start a food fight.
