Being Nintendo's mascot and having more appearances than any other video game character, Mario and his franchise have been prominently represented throughout several dedicated Nintendo crossover series, such as the Super Smash Bros. series and the NES Remix series. Because of the multitude of Mario games, this often ends up exceeding representation from fellow Nintendo franchises, such as The Legend of Zelda or Metroid, given that there are several more Mario games. Because of this, the MarioWiki in most circumstances allows for crossover coverage.

Purpose[]

We aim for lenience on how much crossover coverage we allow, but a few rules have to be place in place to prevent things from getting too out of hand.

Templates[]

  • {{crossover}} is a notice applied at the top of any article covering a subject not from the Mario franchise and related media.
  • {{Icons}} must be on the top of the article. Adding "nintendo" indicates that the content comes from a third-party media of Nintendo.

Rules[]

  • Do not create articles on subjects that are entirely irrelevant to Mario, such as Halo.
  • Do not give full coverage on non-Mario games, even if their assets are reused in Mario media and Nintendo crossovers. For example, Zelda II: The Adventure of Link has some of its graphics reused in the The Legend of Zelda microgame of WarioWare: Touched!, but the coverage and articles should focus on what appears in that microgame, not the full game itself.
    • Articles are allowed on the respective franchise or series to highlight any relevance to Mario (e.g. The Legend of Zelda and Animal Crossing).
  • For articles originating from different Nintendo franchises, such as The Legend of Zelda, only add information on their appearance in Mario media and Nintendo crossovers with Mario-related elements.
    • However, an exception to this is a Profile section, which can give context behind the subject's physical appearance, personality, and so forth, especially if it is to compare their traits between their franchise of origin as well as Mario-related media.
  • Even if creating articles on content from the Super Smash Bros. series, editors are encouraged to highlight any interaction with Mario character or feature. For example, the Rayquaza page can mention that he has not appeared in any Mario games but that he is fought by a Mario, or more specifically a Donkey Kong character himself, Diddy Kong.
  • Coverage is limited on games with minor Mario representation, such as NBA Street V3 and SSX on Tour, both of which only feature Mario, Luigi, and Princess Peach as guest characters.
  • Articles on Mario content not within Mario games is allowed. For example, the Yoshi Doll from The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening.
