The category policy helps users to know how to manage categories. Categories specify articles that make it easier for readers to find the wanted article. If a user thinks a new category should be added, they should seek an administrator's approval of the category.
Category naming[]
- Categories must be written in plural, not singular.
- Incorrect: Ally
- Correct: Allies
- Categories must be written in sentence case.
- Incorrect: Items In Super Mario Bros.
- Correct: Items in Super Mario Bros.
- The subject must be in front of the game/show/film/comic.
- Incorrect: Super Mario Bros. 2 Items
- Correct: Items in Super Mario Bros. 2
- For non-Mario subjects, the word "from" should be used instead of "in".
- Incorrect: Enemies in The Legend of Zelda series
- Correct: Enemies from The Legend of Zelda series
Category family tree rule[]
- Categories should not be a member of a category that already has its own parent category.
- Incorrect: Child category < Grandparent category
- Correct: Child category < Parent category < Grandparent category
- Incorrect: Items in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga]] < Items
- Correct: Items in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga]] < Items in Mario & Luigi series < Items
- Add the child categories to the article.
