Mario Party 8 is the eighth installment in the Mario Party series and the first game for the Wii console, released in 2007. It features Mario, his friends and enemies visiting a large fair called the Star Carnival, which is hosted by MC Ballyhoo and Big Top.

Plot[]

Ghostt Spoiler warning : Don't you even dare read the spoiler! Because if you do… Hoo hoo hoo hoo hoooooo… A horrible fate awaits you.

Mario and the gang come to the Star Carnival and enter a contest to see who can win the grand prize of a year's worth of candy! MC Ballyhoo and Big Top host it all and have the contestants square off on all five boards. The winner emerges and MC Ballyhoo presents the winner with their prize, a year's supply of candy and a new prize, the legendary Star Rod. But then, Bowser comes flying down and takes the Star Rod and challenges Mario and the gang to come to his board, Bowser's Warped Orbit. Upon arrival, the winner has to take on either Hammer Bro or Blooper (unlocked at random). (The unlockable character --revealed on the final stage-- is random. However, the first unlockable character, it is random unless the player redoes Star Battle Arena with the first one. Then the second one is forcibly the opponent. If the player completes Star Battle Arena with any character, the first unlockable character --revealed on the final stage-- is random. Then the player gets the first unlockable character and he --the first unlockable character-- is playable in the game. However, to unlock the second unlockable character, the player must complete --redo-- Star Battle Arena with the first one.) Once victory is achieved, Bowser decides to take matters into his own hands and fights the winner in Superstar Showdown. When Bowser is defeated, the player is awarded their prize (for real this time), and the mini-game stand opens.

Ghostt Spoiler ends here: You looked! Even if I told you not too!

Characters[]

In the base game, there are fourteen playable characters (12 starters and 2 unlockables). (There are fifteen characters with fourteen in the base game and one in only the Extras Zone. That is, Miis. And they are only playable in the Extras Zone.) The unlockable characters are Hammer Bro. and Blooper. To unlock one of the unlockable characters, the player must complete Star Battle Arena with any character. (To unlock both of them --Hammer Bro and Blooper-- they must complete Star Battle Arena twice.) In the final stage --Bowser's Warped Orbit-- one of the unlockable characters (Hammer Bro or Blooper) becomes revealed. The unlockable character is random, unless the player completes Star Battle Arena with the one which was unlocked first. If the player completes Star Battle Arena with that one --unlockable character-- the other one (revealed in the stage Bowser's Warped Orbit) is forcibly the opponent. If player completes Star Battle Arena with any character, they get one of the unlockable characters. (But it is random, unless the player is the one that was unlocked first.) Then the player --after they complete Star Battle Arena with any character (but not one of the unlockables)-- gets one of the unlockable characters (unlocked at random). So the player now has the one they got first (and the unlockable character --unlocked at random-- is playable in the game). If the player completes (re-does) Star Battle Arena with that unlockable character, they get the other one.

Controversy[]

On July 13, the video game was recalled in the United Kingdom due to the word "spastic" in the game. "Spastic" is considered to be a highly offensive word in the United Kingdom. It was replaced with "erratic" on the re-release day August 3. The word "spastic" was used by Kamek in the phrase "...turn this train spastic...".
