Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games is a Wii U game serving as the fourth installment of the Mario & Sonic series. It was first announced by Satoru Iwata on Nintendo Direct on May 17, 2013. It was released on November 15, 2013. It was created to coincide with the 2014 Winter Olympics that took place in Sochi, Russia at the time. Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games is the latest winter-themed Mario & Sonic Olympics title.
Gameplay[]
Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games features sixteen events, including a wide variety of Olympic winter sports, including skiing, snowboarding, bobsledding, pairs figure skating and curling. Players have to use both the Wii U GamePad and the Wii Remote Plus for certain events. Curling, for example, requires players to draw lines on the GamePad's screen.
The game also includes special events set in the world of Super Mario and Sonic the Hedgehog, in which the characters have special abilities impossible in the events set in Sochi. Mixed events that combine sports like skiing, snowboarding and bobsledding in one race, will also be available. Figure skating can now be performed with two characters on the same team, team-working simultaneously.

After players clear an area they will be ranked on how well the did in all the events after the area is cleared. If players receive an A+ rank, they will be awarded with an unlockable Mii Outfit.

- This is the first installment to be published by Nintendo instead of Sega who published the previous games in the Mario and Sonic series.
- It has exactly the same characters as Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games and Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games. However, DLC characters are possible to unlock.
- This is the first Mario & Sonic game without a handheld counterpart.
