Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games is a game for the Wii, developed by Sega and produced by Nintendo, and released in late 2007 as the first installment of the Mario & Sonic series. It is an official game for the Beijing 2008 Olympics, and it features venues similar to real ones in Beijing. The game also supported Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, prior to being decommissioned. A Nintendo DS counterpart was released shortly after.
The game is a collection of Olympic sports events at which characters from the Mario franchise and characters from the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, relying heavily on the motion-sensing capabilities of the Wii Remote. It is the first game to feature both Mario and Sonic the Hedgehog characters as playable.
Characters[]
There are sixteen playable characters in the game, eight from the Mario franchise and eight from the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. The characters are split into four different groups of four characters each.
In addition to the following characters, the player can also play as their Mii.

Between each character, each have their own rival as based on either mission mode or by the starting prologue. Here are the following face-offs:

- Donkey Kong and Silver the Hedgehog were originally going to appear in this game, but were scrapped for unknown reasons. They appeared in the next game.
