Disabling comments

The result of the discussion was: Oppose Oppose

Hello, MarioWikians! I am proposing to disable the comments feature. To note you, disabling comments does not affect comments on blogs. I find it hard to accept disabling comments, it is where users comment about the article they love or where users must comment. I want the vote to be fair and square. I would like to use talk pages instead of article comments. We all like commenting on articles, but I realized that most of our comments does contribute on updating the page. There are relevant and irrelevant comments for the article.

Additionally, I do not worry about disabling comments. We have a discussions page where users can discuss about the article. If we disable comments and use talk pages to help discuss editing the article, it can help the wiki grow good articles. Plus, I am also hosting the MarioWiki:Featured article nominations to show the wiki's best works!

Thank you for reading it, MarioWikians. Derekblue1 (T B C) 10:29 Jul 10 2019 (UTC)

  1. Support Support Honestly, I hardly comment on articles, if not never. On other wikis I work on, we do not support the use of this feature. If it means furthering the growth of articles, then I feel it's a solid move, and there are other forms of communication such as Discussions or Forums. - RB1196 (talk) 20:03, July 11, 2019 (UTC)

Comment Comment The Article Comment feature is not bad, we just need to up our game. In my opinion, FanOfYoshi, as far as I am concerned, users are commenting on pages because they "like" or "dislike" them. I am impressed many users are more interested into opinionating articles instead of discussing to improving pages. So if we want to discuss our opinions on an article, we can talk on the general discussions, making article comments a pointless feature. There are plenty of users that go onto general discussions, I want users to make use of it. Derekblue1 (T B C) 12:07 Jul 10 2019 (UTC)
Comment Comment You are correct, Gargasa05. Article comments are used to share their opinion about the article. However, I am aware our opinionated article comments does not help improve the article. Overall, users are more active on commenting than editing. Oh, by the way, you can also reply on the comments section. It doesn’t affect the votes, we just discuss.Derekblue1 (T B C) 04:00 Jul 10 2019 (UTC)
Comment Comment To me, there are articles that are currently out-of-date. We are more into commenting than editing. I know users come to this wiki, but likewise, MarioWiki is not a forum. We should be on general discussions. Remember, general discussions is where users opinionate an article. I am glad users are using it and I hope we can make use of it. Derekblue1 (T B C) 04:03 Jul 12 2019 (UTC)
Comment Comment I fear that we will not coupe with updating articles if other users do not cooperate.
I know this proposal will NOT be successful, but if we want to progress, we should continue. We can still make it successful! So far, we are ranked 215th on the WAM log. Derekblue1 (T B C) 04:32 Jul 12 2019 (UTC)

Category policy

The result of the discussion was: Support Support

Hello, MarioWikians. I am considering having specific policies, so uses can easily navigate it. To me, categories are important to me. I consider having a category policy. It helps users to know how to use categories. It also shows users what categories how we should name it (i.e. Characters in (game title) instead of (game title) Characters). We had a conversation on Thread:79087. I know that articles are organized, but if we have this policy, then it will be more organized. Derekblue1 (T B C) 09:45 Jul 11 2019 (UTC)

Support

  1. Support Support I am definitely in favor this policy. Using the Characters in (game title) naming scheme makes it easier for searching and it's more explanatory. Thumbs up on this one! - RB1196 (talk) 20:03, July 11, 2019 (UTC)
  2. Support Support I agree as well. I've always been using that method as I feel the other one is outdated. ZeoSpark  Talk  Contribs  Edits  00:06,7/12/2019

Improvement of image categorization

I realized for a while that we have these image categories for each game (ex. Category:Super Mario Bros. Images, Category:Super Mario All-Stars Images). What I'm proposing is that we create additional image categories (for enemies, locations, levels, characters, etc.) to act as subcategories, as placing a bunch of random images in these categories can clutter up these categories, making it difficult for people to search for specific images. Keeping in mind the new naming policy that was recently discussed, these are examples of how they should be named:

  • Category:Enemy images from [insert title here]
  • Category:Character images from [insert title here]
  • Category:Item images from [insert title here]
  • Category:Gameplay images from [insert title here]
  • Category:Location images from [insert title here]
  • Category:World images from [insert title here]
  • Category:Level images from [insert title here]
  • Category:Level maps from [insert title here]
  • Category:Episode images from [insert title here]

The main image categories for each game should also follow this as well (ex. Images from [insert title here]). It will ensure a cleaner categorization system of images and improve image searching. - RB1196 (talk) 21:57, August 17, 2019 (UTC)

  1. Support Support It makes it easier for searching. Until we follow it, it will be organized. Derekblue1 (T B C) 11:29 Aug 18 2019 (UTC)
  2. Support Support I guess it could work out. But how exactly would we use them? Because I can help sort that out.

  1. Support Support Though there will be a lot to change. If this does pass, will we like work on a specific game article image page to make the change or will there be a bot to do it? If the former, I could do the Paper Mario-related articles since I'm currently working on them more. ZeoSpark  Talk  Contribs  Edits  12:27,8/26/2019

Comment Comment @LuigiMaster41, to answer your question, the process would simply just involve creating the categories, and then going through the main image category for said game (ex. Super Mario Bros. Images) and moving them to where they belong. Another thing to do would be to place each subcategory in their own parent categories as well (by type). Each would go in Category:Images. (ex. Category:Character images from [insert title here] would go in Category:Character images). That would serve as an additional pathway for searching for images. In my sandbox here is an example of how it would be done. - RB1196 (talk) 06:06, August 27, 2019 (UTC)
Comment Comment @ZeoSpark, doing the former is fine. We could also make use of the List of Mario games page to help us keep track of things. - RB1196 (talk) 06:04, August 27, 2019 (UTC)

Wiki page shortcuts

The result of the discussion was: Neutral Neutral

I am making this proposal because I want to know users' opinions about adding wiki page shortcuts. I believe that we should add wiki page shortcuts to make searching pages easier. We cannot use MW (redirects to MediaWiki) or M (redirects to Wikimedia Meta-Wiki) as shortcuts. However, MA can be a shortcut since they are the first two letters of "Mario" and it does not redirect to any site. Do you believe we must have wiki page shortcuts? • Comment Comment I just want to ask real fast so these shortcuts are for searing the characters in the search bar quicker? Like typing in "MA" in the search bar will automatically pull up Mario's page? ZeoSpark  Talk  Contribs  Edits  22:34,3/18/2020

Good articles page

The result of the discussion was: Support Support

Hello, fellow Mario Wikians. I believe considering that we should have a MarioWiki:Good articles page. Good articles do not have to be comprehensive nor necessarily have the same quality as featured articles. However, they easy to read, factual and unbiased. Good articles are the stepping stones of featured articles.

I'm speaking this out, because good articles are stepping stones to featured articles. Then we could nominate featured articles. Due to delayed featured articles, it shows that we are sleeping on MarioWiki. I may look silly to you, but if we could have the good articles page, then we could have better chances of showing our best work and how active the wiki is! Derekblue1 (T B C) 11:39 Apr 2 2020 (UTC)

Support Support Sure, I'd love to help! And besides, we have been slacking a bit on deciding on the featured articles. I think this will be a great idea! There are way more pages on this wiki that still need work vs. the ones that are near perfect that aren't the "close-to-stub" pages. ZeoSpark  Talk  Contribs  Edits  00:21,4/4/2020
