"Mama Luigi" is the thirteenth and final episode of the Super Mario World television series.
Plot[]
Luigi is preparing Yoshi for bed. Yoshi asks Luigi to tell him a story, so Luigi tells him about the Mario Bros. and Princess Toadstool's first adventure in Dinosaur Land, and how they met Yoshi, shown in flashback. It begins with the trio arriving in Dome City sometime after the events of The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3, not knowing that King Koopa has secretly followed them. Toadstool is suddenly being captured by some Chargin' Chucks while Mario and Luigi are chased around by King Koopa's minions, getting separated. Eventually, a Sumo Bro cracks the ground and sends Luigi underground.
After slowering his descent using a P-Balloon and riding on a skull raft, Luigi looks for a Power-Up in some ? Blocks, but ends up with a Yoshi Egg that hatches in his arms. Although Luigi doesn't think much of the crying newborn Yoshi (who mistakenly believes him to be his mother, hence the episode's title), he takes responsibility of him and keeps him safe from two Rexes in the chasm. After avoiding all the aquatic enemies and being brought to the Forest of Illusion, the two are surrounded by five Wigglers, which Yoshi promptly chows down on, to Luigi's surprise. At this point, Mario shows up and, after almost getting eaten by Yoshi because he thought Yoshi was attacking Luigi ("Now I know how a meatball feels"), informs him that he just escaped from Bowser's Castle (Neon Castle), and Toadstool is still being held there. When Yoshi says "Mama Luigi", Mario laughs at that while Luigi is a little embarrassed.
When they arrive at King Koopa's Castle, Yoshi gives the Marios some trouble by running off from them while they're trying to turn on the lights. Yoshi then hides from them in King Koopa's Throne Room. When they pass by, Yoshi comes out from hiding and starts eating everything in there. Mario and Luigi are then chased back to the throne room by King Koopa, who has sent some Mechakoopas after them. King Koopa is angered at seeing his throne room empty and becomes shocked when Yoshi eats his Mechakoopas. Mario says to King Koopa that if he doesn't release Princess Toadstool, Yoshi is going to devour the whole castle when he (Mario) finds her. King Koopa --unfazed by this threat-- says he can build a new castle, but he (Mario) "can't build another princess". He then tries to escape with a key, but Yoshi snatches from him, causing him to run away empty-handed. Yoshi then spits the key (it tastes bad) into a nearby keyhole which, apparently, brings the Marios, Toadstool, and Yoshi back to Dome City. The flashback ends here, and Yoshi is asleep. Luigi tucks him him as Yoshi provides himself a laugh by calling Luigi his mama one more time.

Trivia[]
- In Super Mario World, it takes five enemies for a baby Yoshi to become fully-grown, and that applies mainly to the other colored Yoshis. However, in the flashback, Yoshi stays premature even after eating all the Wigglers and MechKoopas in King Koopa's throne room (there were 5 Wigglers and 4 Mecha-Koopas), although this could be because in the game, the Yoshis that had to be fed were transformed by King Koopa, while the one in this episode really was a baby.
- When the dolphins drop off Luigi and Yoshi on land, one of them has jerky movement as it looks at Luigi. Then, as they leave, their tails turn white for a moment.
- The Big Boo can be seen circling around the top of King Koopa's Castle (where, in the game, the Koopa Clown Car would've been).
- The yellow and brown boards on the floor in the castle disappear when Luigi is flattened by the spike.
- Yoshi eats some Chargin' Chucks in this episode (and in "The Yoshi Shuffle"), something that he could not do in Super Mario World.
- When King Koopa says, "My throne room!", one of his fangs becomes green.
- Luigi said that when he, Mario, and Princess Toadstool came to Dinosaur World for a vacation, Dome City was deserted. When he and Mario rescued the Princess, it still was deserted. There was no explanation given as to why were there cave people in the episodes before this one. This may have been set before the events of Super Mario World, where Mario overthrows King Koopa's rule over Dinoworld and free it's population.
- This is the only Super Mario World episode that mentions the Mushroom Kingdom.
- When Luigi is telling about the attack they encountered from various enemies (two Chargin' Chucks, a Magikoopa, a Banzai Bill, and a Sumo Brother), all of the enemies names were incorrect (they were called: Koopa football players, a Koopa wizard, a Magnum Bill, and a Fire Sumo). Interestingly, the Banzai Bill was named the Magnum Killer in the Japanese version of the game.
- This is the only episode Toadstool appears in where she does not speak at all.
- One of the dinosaurs that chases Yoshi and Luigi is actually the dinosaur in "Party Line."
- Yoshi's feet are shown to be bootless but in the game baby Yoshis' are actually born with shoes.
- Coincidentally, there is an Italian restaurant named Mama Luigi's in Bridgeview, Illinois.
- The episode “Mama Luigi” and Luigi himself in this episode have found their place in internet meme culture, and became very popular, specifically with YouTube Poops, or “YTPs”, for short, constantly remixing and parodying the episode.
