Lucky Cat Mario is a power-up featured in Super Mario 3D World. It can be used by Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, Toad, and Rosalina upon acquirement of a Lucky Bell.
Appearance[]
Lucky Cat Mario's appearance is almost exactly the same as his normal Cat form, except he now dons a red collar with a Lucky Bell attached to it on his neck. When in statue form, his suit changes to golden yellow and he takes on a shiny, sparkling golden tint and holds a coin in one paw whilst holding the other paw in the air.
Powers and Abilities[]
Lucky Cat Mario functions the same as Cat Mario, retaining his scratching attack, diving attack, and ability to climb up walls. However, when Lucky Cat Mario Ground Pounds, he will transform into a golden cat statue form of himself, gaining temporary invincibility for as long as the player holds one of the Ground Pound buttons, similarly to the Tanooki Suit from Super Mario Bros. 3, and the Statue Leaf from Super Mario 3D Land. Lucky Cat Mario can also collect coins as he plummets to the ground as a statue. While invincible, he can defeat all enemies (Excluding bosses) and permanently defeat Dry Bones once contact is made with them. However, the invincibility does not protect against lava, poison, pits, or being crushed.
Trivia[]
- Lucky Cat Mario's statue form is a reference to the Maneki-neko figurine.
- Mario, Peach, Toad, and Rosalina all hold up their right paw as a gesture used to bring in wealth and good fortune, while Luigi is depicted holding up his left paw, commonly associated with businesses and owners wanting to bring in customers.
