Louis Vincent Albano (July 29, 1933 – October 14, 2009), was a WWE Hall of Fame wrestler-turned-manager and character actor who played the voice of Mario on The Super Mario Bros. Super Show, and made a special guest appearance as himself in the live action segment “Captain Lou Is Missing”.

Lou Albano was born in Rome, Italy in July 29, 1933. His family moved to the United States of America preceding his birth. In his adolescence, Lou enjoyed playing football, and after high school, he joined the U.S. Army. At the end of his military career, he was introduced to professional wrestling. He began working in a tag team called the Sicilians, but he got put right off after people started to throw rocks and snowballs at him.

Another contributing factor is that the Mafia has harassed the Sicilians, and demanded that they dissolve because their gig was being too resemblant of the actual Mafia. In addition, he broke his back twice, resulting in him to quit.

Later life[]

He went on to work as a manager, adding 'Captain' to his name. He managed The Headshrinkers and late WWF/E Hall of Famer Andre the Giant.

He later had a collaboration with American singer Cyndi Lauper, having made appearances in her music video, Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.

In the Mario franchise[]

Captain Lou and Cyndi went on to appear in the live-action segment ”Captain Lou Is Missing". In the segment, Cyndi visits Mario Brothers Plumbing with bad news: before the segment’s events, she and Captain Lou were to be going on a picnic, but instead of finding him, she found nothing but the rubber bands for his beard and a note that read, "Dear Cyndi, I'm sorry that I'm not here but I've gone for good".

Cyndi then formed a search party with Mario and Luigi at Mario Brothers Plumbing along with several volunteers and search teams stationed around the world, which ultimately failed since nobody else could find Captain Lou. When Mario went out to buy some pizza, Lou showed up and met Luigi. When Cyndi asked him why he said he left, Lou saw his note and said that part of it had been cut off from ripping it out; the last part should've read "I've gone for good fried chicken. Back in an hour.". Captain Lou then explained that he had gotten tired of waiting for Cyndi to arrive at his house afterwards, so he went out himself, saw fliers about his disappearance, and followed them all the way to Mario Brothers Plumbing.

Cyndi introduced Captain Lou to Luigi, who was thrilled to meet him, although the plumber would've been happier if Mario had been there to meet him as well. When Captain Lou and Cyndi left, Luigi figured that Mario was going to be very disappointed for not getting to meet Captain Lou, as he claimed Mario was his biggest fan.

Although Captain Lou never made an appearance in the Mario series beyond The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!, he, along with several other famous people of Italian descent did receive a mention from the Gondolier during The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3 episode "The Venice Menace".

In 1996, Captain Lou was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame.
