Los Angeles Laps is a race course from Mario Kart Tour. As its name implies, it takes place in Los Ángeles, a city in the state of California, located in the United States on the west coast.

Layout[]

The layout described here is taken from the course's Mario Kart 8 incarnation in the Booster Course Pass, and the compass directions apply to the Mario Kart Tour map, due to the Santa Mónica Pier being moved to the north path. For the individual layouts in Mario Kart Tour, see Los Angeles Laps 1, Los Angeles Laps 3, and Los Angeles Laps 2.

Four pathways branch off the intersection that lies at Los Angeles Laps' centre. The south path leads onto the Santa Mónica Pier (Los Angeles Laps 1), the east path ends at a three-way intersection, with the south path there leading onto the beach (again, Los Angeles Laps 1) and the north path leading into an oil field (Los Angeles Laps 2). The north and west paths lead to the Dodgers Stadium (Los Angeles Laps 3). Close to the intersection on the west path is a path branching north and turning sharply to the east, leading into the oil field, where pump jacks appear.

Los Angeles Laps' layout involves a single lap for the Switch version of Mario Kart 8 in the Booster Course Pass, despite the course's name. The racers start on the Santa Mónica Pier, facing south according to the Mario Kart Tour map, although due to how the map is oriented, they appear to be facing north.

Section 1[]

The first section largely adheres to the track's first route. When the race starts, the racers will head down the Santa Mónica Pier until they are forced to turn left, after which they drive along a beach. A skate park whose ramps the racers can exploit for jump boosts can be found here. A half-pipe can be seen up ahead; the racers turn right there, or they can go up the half-pipe. When the racers reach the end of the beach, they will go down a road to a four-way intersection behind the starting line; here, they turn right, heading away from the starting line. Up ahead, the racers will pass under a bridge, which has the Mario Kart logo on it, leading to the next section.

Section 2[]

When the racers go under the bridge with the Mario Kart logo, the second section is initiated. The road curves left to go past the Los Angeles Convention Centre, and then to the right as the racers go under the Convention Centre's canopy. Following this is a slight left curve; when the racers get through, they will find a Glide Ramp that they must use to fly over the Dodger Stadium. Coins can be seen here forming the outline of a baseball. After the racers land on the other side, they will take two left turns before continuing down a curvy road towards Two Rodeo Drive. This is followed by a sharp left turn. A ramp can be seen up ahead (where Los Angeles Laps 3's original start/finish line was located. The racers continue straight through the four-way intersection and then make a left turn to make their way into the Inglewood Oil Field, where the entry gate has been given a Mario Kart logo, bringing them into the final section of the race.

Shortcuts[]

There is a grassy shortcut at the start of the curvy road towards Two Rodeo Drive; a Dash Mushroom can be used to get through this area unimpeded.

Section 3 (Final Section)[]

The final section largely follows Los Angeles Laps 2. Within the Inglewood Oil Field, pump jacks can be seen; they go up and down as they pump oil. Fortunately, the pump jacks move slowly, so their heads can be easily avoided. A racer that ends up beneath them will get smashed.

As the racers enter the route, they notice that the path splits into two. The right path has a small shortcut through the middle of the mud puddle, connecting to the left path. After a left turn, two more pump jacks will have to be dodged, and a Glide Ramp appears along with a few Glide Rings that can be used for a boost. After a right turn, the racers will exit the oil field, crossing over the bridge under which the second section started. Two left turns bring them back to the central four-way intersection, where they must take a right turn and drive down the Santa Mónica Pier to get back to the starting line and end the race.

Shortcuts[]

Aside from the fact that the racers can use a Dash Mushroom to cut through the mud patches in the oil field, there are two grass patches on the insides of the left turns that lead back to the four-way intersection that can be boosted through.

Trivia[]

  • Los Angeles Laps has the most locations for the starting line out of any city course in Mario Kart Tour, with a total of three unique locations, not counting the extra lap gates from the Booster Course Pass version. Most city courses have one (with Tokyo Blur being an example) or two (Berlin Byways as an example).
    • Los Angeles Laps 1's starting line sits on the Santa Mónica Pier.
    • Los Angeles Laps 3's starting line has been placed between the four-way intersection and the offshoot that led to the starting line of Los Angeles Laps 2.
    • In Los Angeles Laps 2, the racers start between the two turns that lead to the central four-way intersection.
  • Los Angeles Laps is one of two city courses to have the layouts released with the wrong number, as Los Angeles 3 is technically the second route released.
