Lakitu is a playable racer in the Mario Kart series.

Profile[]

Physical description[]

Lakitu has a red shell (to distinguish him from the referee who has a green shell), he wears goggles and three strands of black hair sticking out of his head. The expressions he makes shows his personality being bubbly and chill.

Powers and abilities[]

In Mario Kart 7, he is classified as Featherweight. Lakitu has high acceleration, handling, and off-road stats while giving him drawbacks such as low speed and weight. His cloud-shaped kart (Cloud 9) also has an advantage in acceleration, and handling, but it also has drawbacks such as speed and weight.

In Mario Kart 8 & Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, he is classified as Lightweight. Lakitu's stats show he is the best in handling and traction.

In Mario Kart Tour, he is classified as a Super Driver. He was given the special item Triple Green Shells, which is shared with Iggy, Koopa Troopa, and Dry Bones.

In the Mario Kart series[]

Mario Kart 7[]

This was Lakitu's first playable appearance, along with the Honey Queen. He is the staff ghost racer for Piranha Plant Slide and SNES Rainbow Road and is the most common CPU along with Toad. He was given a kart based on him, called Cloud 9, which is in the shape of a Lakitu's Cloud.

Mario Kart 8 / Mario Kart 8 Deluxe[]

Lakitu makes a reappearance in Mario Kart 8 and its remake Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. He is the staff ghost racer for SNES Donut Plains 3. However, his kart, Cloud 9, does not make a reappearance for unknown reasons.

Mario Kart Tour[]

Lakitu was added as a playable character during the Tokyo Tour, and his cloud-shaped kart makes a reappearance. The Lakitu (referee) in the New Year's costume debuts in the New Year's 2021 Tour as a playable character.

Mario Kart World[]

As of Mario Kart World, red-shell Lakitu has been replaced by a green-shelled Lakitu.

Other appearances[]

Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS[]

Lakitu with him riding Cloud 9 makes an appearance in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS as a trophy. He is also equipped with the Slick tires and Lakitu's Super Glider.
