Koopa the Quick is a friendly large Koopa Troopa whom Mario races against on two different occasions in Super Mario 64 and its remake Super Mario 64 DS.

In Super Mario 64

Koopa the Quick races Mario in Bob-omb Battlefield's second mission, Footrace with Koopa the Quick, and during Tiny-Huge Island's third mission, Rematch with Koopa the Quick, specifically during the Huge portion. Koopa the Quick moves a lot faster in his second race than in his first race. Koopa the Quick claims that Tiny-Huge Island is his home course, which may attribute as to why he is more extensive than an average Koopa. In each mission, if Mario wins, Koopa the Quick gives him a Power Star.

In Super Mario 64 DS

KoopaQuickDS — Koopa the Quick in *Super Mario 64 DS*

Not much has changed for him aside from receiving a graphical update. In addition, Mario is the only character whom Koopa the Quick wishes to race, so if Yoshi, Luigi, or Wario talk to Koopa the Quick, he asks if they have seen Mario. Given that the Footrace with Koopa the Quick mission becomes accessible earlier on, before Mario is unlocked, the mission features a Goomba that Yoshi can defeat for its Mario Cap.

Glitch

There is a glitch in the Footrace with Koopa the Quick mission that allows the player to win against Koopa the Quick in zero seconds. To do it, the player must get the Wing Cap and triple jump right in front of Koopa the Quick, but not too close. Then Mario has to fly to the top of the mountain. Koopa the Quick will talk to Mario once he lands, though he is far away. Then the timer begins and ends at zero seconds.
