Konks are an enemy in Super Mario Bros. Wonder. They are featured prominently in the level Jewel-Block Cave.

Profile[]

Physical description[]

Konks are a Thwomp-like creatures with a metallic body, and the lower half of their body is yellow. A Konk has small eyes, which are within an arrow-like shape engraved on its face. When it falls, it is revealed to have a large set of teeth. During a Konk's fall, its arrow-shaped engraving becomes slightly larger and gets surrounded by a red border.

Behavior[]

A Konk acts like a Thwomp in that it is attached to the ceiling and attempts to slam down onto the player's character if they are beneath it. The biggest difference is that a Konk slides along the ceiling prior to falling. Due to their heaviness, a Konk can also smash its way through goo.

Konks cannot be destroyed.

Variants[]

Reverse Konk[]

These enemies are basically inverted Konks. The arrow engraving is on the bottom side of their body and points upward, and the top half of their body is blue. Their mouth is also on the top side. Whenever it detects a character above the region it is patrolling, a Reverse Konk tries to crush that character against the ceiling by ramming upwards. It is docile to characters below its altitude.

As with regular Konks, Reverse Konks cannot be destroyed.

Screenwide Konk[]

These Konks can be summoned via certain Wonder Effects. Screenwide Konks act like a descending ceiling that must be outran, and their smash attack can destroy certain blocks. Their chase segments can be stopped by collecting a Wonder Seed; this is the only type of Konk that can be defeated, albeit not by conventional means.
