"King Scoopa Koopa" is the sixth episode of the Super Mario World animated series. It's a social commentary on fast food franchises and obesity in the United States. It can also be a commentary on the problems of addiction, such as Luigi and Yoshi stealing a treasure chest to feed their unhealthy habit.
Plot[]
As Princess Toadstool begins serving lunch to Mario and Luigi, Mario begins complaining to the Princess about eating "rabbit-food" again (in other words, vegetable filled sandwiches). (Mario does not want to eat fruits and vegetables.) Soon after, Mario begins to wonder where Yoshi is, since he never misses lunch. At this realization, Mario, Princess Toadstool and Luigi scurry out of the Dome Castle to investigate.
Outside, Mario, Luigi and Princess Toadstool see a Rex dressed as a chef parading around a sign displaying the message "GRAND OPENING! SCOOPA KOOPA'S FAST FOOD! FREE SAMPLES". (This fast food restaurant sells egg burgers, papaya French fries, coconut milkshakes, and soft drinks.) Bowser is also a chef at this fast food restaurant (called Scoopa Koopa). (This fast food restaurant sells burgers, French fries, milkshakes, ice cream, and soft drinks. That is, which is in fact not at all healthy.) At the prospect of free food, Luigi runs up to the Rex chef and grabs a burger off the chef's plate. Luigi announces that it is an egg-burger, which makes Mario wrinkle his nose in disgust (he hates eggs). After Luigi gets his burger (egg burger), Mario spots Yoshi in a line-up for food at a small concession stand, which is run by a Rex and King Koopa himself.
Proceeding to order a large amount of food, Yoshi watches as his meal is assembled by several Rexes and Dino-Torches. As Yoshi's food is being made, King Koopa begins to gloat about how he'll make himself rich off causing the cave-people to become addicted to his food, and hinting at the upcoming side effects of the food.
Getting his food, Yoshi realizes that he doesn't have any money. An annoyed King Koopa proceeds to threaten Yoshi with being made into special Scoopa Sauce, until Mario intervenes and tells him to back off. Asking how much Yoshi owes, Mario proceeds to give King Koopa the apparently unfair sum of eighteen coins.
Leaving King Koopa's concession stand, Mario, Luigi, Yoshi and Princess Toadstool find a stone table to eat lunch at. As Mario, Luigi and Yoshi scarf down the food, Luigi and Yoshi are eating egg-burgers and Mario is wolfing down the papaya French fries and coconut ice cream milkshakes. Princess Toadstool states she refuses to eat anything King Koopa's had his dirty claws on. After finishing their meals, the extremely bloated Mario, Luigi, and Yoshi decide to get seconds and waddle back over to King Koopa's concession stand.
Several days later, Princess Toadstool visits Mario, Luigi, and Yoshi (who have all gotten fat from eating King Koopa's food). Luigi and Yoshi begin exhibiting bird-like behavior, sleeping in bird positions and crowing when they awaken. The Princess (seeing her friends in this condition) forces the three of them into a diet. Mario protests, but can't get off the pile of papaya French fry bags he's laying on. Toadstool proceeds to lock them in the Dome Castle to prevent them from going back to Scoopa Koopa.
Possibly a day or so afterwards, Princess Toadstool is contacted by Mario. Mario reveals that Luigi and Yoshi have escaped through the open window with their treasure chest of gold coins, and have apparently been mutated by King Koopa's food, having grown several bird-like features including wings, though Toadstool doesn't believe him at first ("Right. They grew wings and flew away. Gimme a break, Mario."). Watching as his customers line up for food, King Koopa begins to realize that once all his costumers have mutated into Chickadactyls, he'll lose his cash flow. It's then that King Koopa realizes he can just cook the Chickadactyls and sell them to dinosaurs with his new idea, "Flew the Koopa's Fried Chickadactyl Stand". After having this thought, King Koopa begins to laugh maniacally, stating "You can never be too rich... or too evil!".
Princess Toadstool and Mario manage to track Luigi and Yoshi down and try to talk some sense into them. Unfortunately, Luigi and Yoshi won't listen and attack them, revealing their bird features and knocking the food from Mario and Toadstool's hands, then proceeding to chow down. Suddenly, King Koopa appears, claiming there will be no way to stop his plan of transforming everyone into Chickadactyls after one more day. King Koopa then states to the mutated cave people and his dinosaur employees that Mario and Princess Toadstool plan on taking away their food, and the enraged cave-people and dinosaurs proceed to attack the fleeing Mario and Princess Toadstool.
Finding a Fire Flower, Mario manages to turn into Fire Mario and defeat several of King Koopa's dinosaur minions, though Mario is turned back to normal after being hit by a Rex. Mario and Princess Toadstool are forced to flee to the Star Path as they are being chased by dozens of Chickadactyl cave-people.
Transported to the ocean, Mario and the Princess manage to evade a Rip Van Fish and enter a nearby Warp Pipe. Exiting the Warp Pipe, Mario and Princess Toadstool find themselves in a cave where King Koopa has been dumping the garbage from his concession stand. Hitting a nearby block, Mario gains a feather and turns into Cape Mario.
Climbing up King Koopa's Warp Tube garbage disposal, Mario enters the Scoopa Koopa kitchen and begins to beat up King Koopa's henchmen. Using a Dino-Torch as a flamethrower against Mario, King Koopa ultimately manages to escape by hopping down a nearby Warp Pipe with the money he had stolen. (Then he runs away to open this fast food restaurant someplace else. But not at Dome City.) After King Koopa and his minions escape, Princess Toadstool drops King Koopa's Chickadactyls down the pipe as well. And she says to the Chickadactyls that now they are going to be "free range pterosaurs" forever. (That is, as she expels the Chickadactyls as well.)
Mario and Princess Toadstool both expel King Koopa, the fast food dino co-workers (the Rexes), and the Chickadactyls from their job. And they (Mario and Princess Toadstool) make them open no more fast food restaurants at Dome City again. Then Mario, he closes the "King Koopa Scoopa" fast food restaurant. He (after he and Princess Toadstool close the joint forever) turns to the cave people. He --to the cave people-- makes a closure announcement and orders them (the cave people) to go get and feed themselves healthy food. (That is, as he says --an announcement to the cave people-- "THIS JOINT IS GOING TO BE HEREBY CLOSED BY ORDER OF THE HEALTH INSPECTOR! AND BY CLOSED, I MEAN TOTALLY DESTROYING THE PLACE!". That is, to which he --after he says he means totally destroying the place by the word "closed"-- actually locks down the fast food restaurant for good and destroys it. Then he says, "NOW GO GET AND FEED YOURSELVES SOME HEALTHY FOOD! DR. MARIO'S ORDERS!".) Then the cave people cut down with --and restrict-- the fast food (and junk food) altogether and go buy themselves healthy food. (That is, like fruits and vegetables.)
Back home, Luigi and Yoshi returned to normal. And the group --Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, and Princess Toadstool-- begins eating a healthy meal of healthy food (such as fruits and vegetables). (But junk food can only be eaten occasionally.) Mario accidentally sends a plate flying and remarks, "I just invented the tossed salad!".

Trivia/Goofs[]
- The scene after Peach locks the Marios and Yoshi in the Dome Castle, Mario seems to lose all the weight he gained from eating all the fries and coconut shakes. This is not explained, unless (rather inhumanely), Peach locked them up for days or more.
- It is unknown whether or not King Koopa's chefs actually were Rexes, as they came in different colors. The Rexes in "Send in the Clown" (and the game) were all blue.
- Interesting to note is that Mario and Princess Peach do not seem concerned about King Koopa having made off with the cavepeoples' money. Also interesting is how they were not concerned about the treasure chest they lost when Luigi and Yoshi used it to feed their fast food addiction.
- After destroying King Koopa's fast food restaurant (King Koopa Scoopa), Mario orders everybody to go get and feed themselves healthy food and says "Dr. Mario's orders!". (And he restricts the cave people's junk food and fast food from their diets.) Referring to himself as a doctor is apparently a reference to Dr. Mario.
- Mario destroying Scoopa Koopa's near the end could also be a reference to how he or Luigi always destroy the Koopalings' Castles in the game after defeating & saving one of Yoshi's trapped friends from them.
- Due to the use of a fried egg as an ingredient for Egg Scoopa Koopas, the food may actually be classified as a breakfast sandwich rather than burger relatives.
- Mario was being rather rude to King Koopa stating that his sandwiches were "highway robbery": the reason for the high price was because Yoshi ordered a large amount of food.
- Apparently, when King Koopa is telling his employees to work faster, he is really introducing food items to the viewers rather than telling his employees to hurry up.
- Though Luigi should be imitating a Chickadactyl, when he says, "Rahht, Luigi hungry!", he is actually imitating a parrot.
- King Koopa's head keeps switching positions when he says "I call it inflation...in more ways than one."
- This episode shows that King Koopa is a supporter of capitalism.
Quotes[]
- (Mario, he spin dashes some dino employees --including the Rexes, Dino Rhinos, and Dino Torches-- and knocks them out. Then he runs to Bowser.)
- Mario: (to Bowser) YOU ARE NEXT, KOOPA!
- Bowser: (to Mario) DON'T EGG ON ME, MARIO!
- (Bowser picks up a Dino Torch and it almost scorches Mario. Princess Toadstool comes out of the pipe and throws some coconuts at Bowser.)
- Princess Toadstool: (to Bowser) NUTS TO YOU, KOOPA!
- Bowser: YEOW! I THINK IT IS TIME THAT WE TAKE THE MONEY AND RUN!
- (Bowser takes off his apron and hat, grabs a sack of coins, and jumps into the pipe, followed by some employees. Princess Toadstool picks up the Chickadactyl pterosaurs, puts them the pipe, and kicks them out for good. Then she says...!)
- Princess Toadstool: (to the Chickadactyl pterosaurs) I AM SENDING YOU CHICKADACTYLS TO WHERE THE PECKING IS GOOD! YOU CAN BE FREE CHICKADACTYLS FOREVER!
- (Mario and Princess Toadstool walk in front of the entrance to the Scoopa Koopa fast food restaurant and stand in front of the cave people. That is, after expelling King Koopa, the fast food dino co-workers, and the Chickadactyls from their job at the fast food restaurant.)
- Mario: (to the cave people) THIS JOINT IS HEREBY CLOSED BY THE ORDER OF THE HEALTH INSPECTOR! AND JUST TO BE SURE...!
- (Mario becomes Cape Mario and destroys the King Koopa Scoopa.)
- Mario: (continues to the cave people) NOW GO GET AND FEED YOURSELVES HEALTHY FOOD! DR. MARIO'S ORDERS!
- (Mario and Princess Toadstool restrict the junk food and fast food from the cave people's diet. And the cave people leave the area to go get and feed themselves healthy food --like fruits and vegetables-- as Mario said.)
