"King Mario of Cramalot" is the second episode of The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! Its corresponding live-action segment is "Day of the Orphan".

Plot[]

Mario, Luigi, Toad, and Princess Toadstool travelled through Cramalot for Mervin the Magician. Toadstool hoped that Mervin could free her people from King Koopa. Luigi spotted a "buzzin'" which Mario speculated a beehive is nearby. Toad realizes they are not bees, but Beezos. The group fought the Beezos, but a man in a purple cloak appeared in purple smoke zapping the Beezos.

Ghostt Spoiler warning : Don't you even dare read the spoiler! Because if you do… Hoo hoo hoo hoo hoooooo… A horrible fate awaits you.

Princess Toadstool suddenly realizes that the man who saved them must be Mervin; the man says he is indeed Mervin and invites Mario, Luigi, Toad, and the Princess to his cave home. In his cave, Mervin proceeds to tell the group that the Beezos that attacked them were sent by King Koopa. Toadstool realized the man is Mervin. He invited Mario, Luigi, Toad and Toadstool to his home, a cave. Mervin told the group King Koopa sent the Beezos to attack them. Mervin demonstrated through the crystal ball that the old king of Cramalot died, and King Koopa crowned himself king. As Princess Toadstool asked Mervin about freeing Cramalot, Mervin stated an old legend that said the one who can pull the Golden Plunger from the Sacred Sink of Cramalot can defeat King Koopa and save Cramalot.

Mario successfully pulled the Golden Plunger from the Sacred Sink. The townspeople of Camelot commemorated Mario's victory. However, this ended shortly after King Koopa's army of Koopa Paratroopas trapped the group in a net and grabbed the Golden Plunger and imprisoned the group but Mervin. Mervin freed them from the flooding prison.

They headed to the "Forest of Perpetual Night and Terrible Dangers" when lightning struck a nearby lake, causing a hand holding a "plumbing snake" to rise from the water which was confirmed to be Excalibur. The hand tossed to Excalibur to Mario. Grabbing Excalibur, Mario transformed into Super Mario. With his new powers and confidence, Mervin lead Mario, Luigi, Toad, and Toadstool to Cramalot Castle.

Mario and co. intervened the castle with the Excalibur on his hand. Mario with Excalibur fought against Bowser with the Golden Plunger. Mario defeated King Koopa and reclaimed the Golden Plunge saving Camelot once again. King Koopa surrendered as he left through a door. Mervin told Mario that Cramalot wants him to be crowned king. However, realising that committing to being king means no pasta for him, he backed off being a king running towards the horizons causing others to laugh about it.

Ghostt Spoiler ends here: You looked! Even if I told you not too!

Cast and characters[]

Animation and continuity errors[]

  • As Mario challenged King Koopa in Cramalot Castle, King Koopa held a regular scepter. Hoever, he held Golden Plunger when Mario battled him.
  • The shade of red from Toad's mushroom cap is inconsistent between scenes.
  • Before Luigi jumped in the moat, Toad, Mervin, Princess Toadstool, and another Luigi are seen at the rock in the distance.
  • Koopa's maw and neck turned into varied shades of green.
  • In the dungeon, the ceiling changed location relative to their heads.
    • However, this could be due to perspective.
  • In the cell scene, Mario moved to the right for one frame then returned to his original position.
    • Similarly when the scene faded in from black, and Toad turned his face, Toad is layered behind Toadstool for one frame. Then Toad returned to being in front of Toadstool.
    • When Luigi talked about "we'll be mushed", the ceiling is very close to Luigi. When Toad, Mario, Princess Toadstool, and Luigi are seen, the ceiling is shown to be higher than when only Luigi is seen.
      • This could also be due to perspective.
  • At the end of the episode, when Mario ran off, he turned blue.

Trivia[]

  • "King Mario of Cramalot / Day of the Orphan" is a clear parody of the Legend of King Arthur, with Cramalot being a pun on the fictional castle Camelot.
  • When shown on Yahooligans! TV and on US DVD releases (even the Shout! Factory set), this episode runs at a slower pace than originally aired. The The Legend of Zelda segment is also missing on the Volume 1 Shout! Factory set.
  • Both times when Toadstool jumps onto a Koopa Troopa, their heads go under her skirt. Afterwards, they're both shown to be smiling.
  • This is the final episode where Toad has a red hat with white polka-dots. Starting with Butch Mario & the Luigi Kid onward, and especially on The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3, Toad has a white hat with red polka-dots.
