- Not to be confused with King Bomb.
King Bob-omb, sometimes named Big Bob-omb, is a massive Bob-omb character who is featured as a boss in most of his appearances. King Bob-omb made his debut in Super Mario 64 in Bob-omb Battlefield. In the same way that Bowser is the King of the Koopas, King Bob-omb is the King of the Bob-ombs.
Profile[]
Physical description[]
He wears a crown, declares himself the Bob-omb king, and is located on top of the level's mountain. He sports a mustache, yellow feet and hands, a large crown and blue arms and legs. In Super Mario 64 DS, it is Yoshi not Mario who first defeats him.
In Super Mario series[]
Super Mario 64[]
Here, he is named Big Bob-omb, and is fought as the boss of Bob-omb Battlefield, being the first boss overall. Big Bob-omb is fought in the course's first mission, Big Bob-omb on the Summit, in which Big Bob-omb is located on the summit of a mountain. During the boss fight, Mario has to attack Big Bob-omb by picking him up and throwing him a total of three times. If Mario throws Big Bob-omb off the summit or tricks him into moving off, Big Bob-omb accuses Mario of cheating, and the battle restarts. This similarly occurs if Mario leaves the summit and then returns there. Once defeated, Big Bob-omb explodes, revealing the Power Star.
Super Mario 64 DS[]
Just as in the original game, he is named Big Bob-omb, and was given a slightly larger role within Big Bob-omb Battlefield than in the original version.
Given that Big Bob-omb on the Summit is the very first mission and that Yoshi is the only playable character around that time, the standard is for Yoshi to fight Big Bob-omb and acquire that mission's Power Star. Because Yoshi cannot grab objects, Big Bob-omb instead attacks by throwing Bob-ombs at Yoshi. Yoshi can attack Big Bob-omb by putting a Bob-omb in his mouth and then spitting it out at him. Once Big Bob-omb is hit a total of three times, he explodes, revealing a Power Star.
It is possible for Mario, Luigi, or Wario to enter the first mission, Big Bob-omb on the Summit, and fight Big Bob-omb for the Power Star, especially if Yoshi has skipped it earlier on in favor of obtaining a different Power Star in the course. Mario, Luigi, or Wario can attack Big Bob-omb by either throwing Bob-ombs at him or by using the traditional method of grabbing and throwing him.
Big Bob-omb is now fought in a second mission, titled Big Bob-omb's Revenge. The main difference is that it focuses on the original method of picking up Big Bob-omb and throwing him, so it is essentially the same as Super Mario 64's Big Bob-omb on the Summit. Just before his rematch begins, Big Bob-omb even gives away the method of how to defeat him, but he believes that the playable character cannot do so. Big Bob-omb can be defeated by picking him up and throwing him a total of three times, just as before. As such, Yoshi cannot fight King Bob-omb in this mission, unless he transforms into Mario, Luigi, or Wario using their respective cap.
In the Big Bob-omb on the Summit mission, Big Bob-omb provides unique dialogue for each character; for Mario, Luigi, or Wario, Big Bob-omb comments on their mustache, something that he does not do in the original Nintendo 64 version. In Big Bob-omb's Revenge, his dialogue is the same for every character.
In Mario Party series[]
Mario Party 2[]
A statue of King Bob-omb is buried in the sand at the center portion of Mystery Land.
Mario Party 5[]
There are two King Bob-ombs in the 2 vs. 2 minigame Defuse or Lose, where both teams have to cooperate to prevent a set of fuses from reaching King Bob-omb. If the fuses touch a King Bob-omb, a large explosion will occur on that team's end, eliminating them with a bunch of Bob-ombs. The King Bob-ombs and this minigame would later return in Mario Party: The Top 100, retaining the same role as before.
Mario Party Advance[]
Big Bob-omb lives in the basement of Mushroom Condo, where he sits on a throne, accompanied by a Bob-omb on the left and right sides each. Big Bob-omb leads the Bob-omb gang, which protects Shroom City.
In his associated quest Big Boss Bob-omb, Big Bob-omb challenges the player to a dice game in which they both roll dice blocks, and whoever rolls the higher number three times is the winner. If the player wins, they receive a Gaddget titled Stress Press.
In the epilogue, Big Bob-omb is said to have retired and moved to the jungle, with Bob-omb taking over his role instead.
Mario Party 8[]
King Bob-omb appears in the mini-game You're the Bob-omb. In the minigame, when the character selects the correct wire, King Bob-omb detonates, causing the losing character to fly off the screen.
A figure of King Bob-omb can be obtained at Koopa's item shop.
Mario Party 9[]
King Bob-omb, named Big Bob-omb in British English releases, is the main boss of Bob-omb Factory in Solo mode. He is fought in the minigame Bombard King Bob-omb, which involves the four characters having to throw Bob-ombs at him to attack. King Bob-omb begins to attack after losing half of his health, and if two or more players choose the same bomb, they lose lose a point.
Mario Party: Island Tour[]
King Bob-omb is featured within his own boss minigame, King Bob-omb's Court of Chaos. In Bowser's Tower mode, he is fought on the twentieth floor.
Mario Party: Star Rush[]
King Bob-omb reappears as a boss within his own minigame, this time being King Bob-omb's Boom D'état. The characters must attack King Bob-omb by loading bombs into the cannons on the platform and fire at him. Eventually, after enough hits, King Bob-omb loses all of his health.
Super Mario Party[]
King Bob-omb is the main hazard of his own board, King Bob-omb's Powderkeg Mine. Here, when a character lands on an Event Space, the counter goes down by a few. When it reaches zero, King Bob-omb explodes, causing anyone near him to lose half their coins.

In Mario Baseball series[]
Mario Superstar Baseball[]
King Bob-omb is featured only in the minigame Bob-omb Derby, set in Mario Stadium. He is worth 400-500 points when the player smacks and get a homerun with him, more than regular Bob-ombs, and explodes into larger fireworks as well.
Mario Super Sluggers[]
Besides retaining his role in the Bob-omb Derby minigame, King Bob-omb is featured as a stage obstacle at Bowser Castle, where he throws Bob-ombs down onto the field. He rides a vehicle similar to the Koopa Clown Car. He can also interfere with the player's hit.
In Mario Kart series[]
Mario Kart DS[]
Big Bob-omb is the fifth boss of Mission Mode in Mario Kart DS. Wario is the only character who can fight King Bob-omb here.
When the battle begins, Big Bob-omb stomps on the ground making two Item Boxes appear on each side of him and a single Bob-omb behind him. Wario must get to an Item Box before he gets to the Bob-omb, or the Item Boxes disappear and Wario moves elsewhere and does the same. Once he gets the Bob-omb, he gets his Bob-omb and throw it at Wario. Wario must then get out his Bob-omb item and heave it at Big Bob-omb. Wario must then quickly get the Item Box before the Bob-ombs explode. He must then move out of the way and Big Bob-omb finally falls quickly through the Bob-omb or Wario goes back up. Wario must do this three times in total to complete the mission.
Mario Kart Arcade GP DX[]
King Bob-omb is a non-playable character who is featured in the Bowser's Factory course.
Mario Kart Tour[]
King Bob-omb made his Mario Kart playable debut on August 12, coming with the Pirate Tour. His special item is the Giga Bob-omb.
In Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam[]
King Bob-omb appears as a minor antagonist. He was stationed on top of Mr. Brrr where he was tasked to keep the Marios and Luigi from reaching the top. When the heroes do make it to the top, King Bob-omb engages them in a timed battle. If Mario, Luigi, and Paper Mario fail to defeat King Bob-omb in four minutes (or doesn't counterattack his attacks to extend the time), then King Bob-omb will self-destructed taking out himself, Mario, Luigi, and Paper Mario. If at least one member survives, the party will not gain any experience points or coins. However there are certain ways to survive the explosion such as using the Boo Biscuit or using the card that makes the damage heal you.
