A keyhole is an object which appears in Super Mario World and its Game Boy Advance remake Super Mario World: Super Mario Advance 2.
Description[]
A keyhole is found in specific levels, starting with Donut Plains 1. Unlike usual keyholes, which are usually found on doors, these keyholes are part of the environment. A key serves as an alternate exit for a level, specifically known as a "secret exit," and unlocks a path to a different level on the world map than what the main level exit unlocks. Any level on the world map marked with a red dot has a secret exit, most of which are accessed from a keyhole.
Mario or Luigi can only access a keyhole by carrying a key to it, including if they ride Yoshi to a keyhole while the key is in Yoshi's mouth. Once Mario or Luigi take the key to the keyhole, the keyhole grows significantly larger to take in Mario or Luigi, and Yoshi if he is with them, and then shrinks back to its usual size right after. Whenever the keyhole grows and shrinks, Mario or Luigi and Yoshi simply stay in place. The level ends directly after they access the keyhole.
