Jammyfishes are underwater jellyfish enemies featured in Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2. They are stronger larger variants of Jellyfish.

Profile[]

Physical description[]

Jammyfishes are transparent and have a multicolored, rubbery orb inside their head.

Behaviour[]

If you get too close to a Jammyfish and touch it, it will shock you. Mario can defeat these enemies by throwing a shell at them or spinning into them; the former method is safer, but both will yield a coin that Mario can use to replenish his life meter. Firing Star Bits at Jellyfishes will only make them bounce a little, showing that the small attack doesn't hurt them.

A Jammyfish does not use any ranged weapons, but does move around. Mario will take damage upon coming into contact with the enemy if he is not spinning. The Jammyfish can be found in the Bigmouth Galaxy and the Deep Dark Galaxy. The Jammyfish can be defeated by throwing three Green Shells or two Gold Shells at it; however, due to a bug in the game's code, the Jammyfish in the Bigmouth Galaxy will guard itself just before it stops ascending or descending. Since the Jammyfish in the Deep Dark Galaxy is stationary, it is always vulnerable The Jammyfish leaves a Coin when slain. Like the smaller Preying Mantas, Jammyfishes are found in dark underwater caves or coves and are also found in the same general locations as them.

In Super Mario Galaxy 2, the Jammyfish has the same role as in the first game appearing in the Cosmic Cove Galaxy however this time, it only takes two shell hits to kill it and it releases Star Bits instead of a Coin.

Behind the Scenes[]

The Jammyfish's name is a pun on "Jam" and "Jellyfish" as Jam is often viewed as an alternative to Jelly.
