Item Shops are a recurring location in the Mario Party series. They first appear in Mario Party 2.
Description[]
When a character passes by an Item Shop, they have the option to go visit there to buy from a limited selection of items in exchange for coins. Each item is priced differently, and the more expensive ones generally provide a greater advantage than the cheaper ones. In most games, a character can only purchase one item from an Item Shop at a time. In later turns, especially the Last Five Turns Event, an Item Shop's inventory is usually updated to items that provide a greater advantage to the user.
In Mario Party 4[]
Item Shops sell a selection of five different items, except on the two Extra Room boards, Mega Board Mayhem and Mini Board Mad-Dash, where the Item Shops instead sell five of the same item. The items sold in the Item Shops of both boards cost at least ten coins, and while a character can enter the Item Shop if they have at least five coins, but they cannot purchase anything if they have fewer than 10.
