They are a species of red crab hidden within a shell. They sport two yellow feet and a single claw which is used to hurl projectiles, which are mostly rocks. The Huckit Crab can toss an unlimited number of projectiles, consisting of either rocks or balls of sand, like Clawgrip. The rocks or sandballs thrown always move in a straight line. Huckit Crabs are very, very similar to Sidesteppers from the original Mario Bros. in terms of behavior. Since their debut in New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Huckit Crabs have essentially the role for the common crabs throughout the Mario franchise.
Huckit Crabs appear in large quantities, but only in one area, the third stage of World 4, World 4-3. The crabs attack by tossing sandballs at the heroes which can either be avoided or stomped on to be destroyed (the sandballs cannot be destroyed whilst under the effects of a Mini Mushroom), upon tossing a sandball, a Huckit Crab will jump a few feet back, this can sometimes lead them to falling into the water behind them. Huckit Crabs can be defeated in multiple ways, including jumping on them, attacking them with Ice Flowers or Fire Flowers. Using the Penguin Suit or Starman is also effective.
New Super Mario Bros. U / New Super Luigi U / New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe[]
Huckit Crabs reappear in New Super Mario Bros. U as well as New Super Luigi U and New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe. In these games, their behavior is relatively unchanged from New Super Mario Bros. Wii however this time, they toss small rocks instead of sandballs however just as before, the rocks can be destroyed with stomps and the Huckit Crabs themselves can be defeated with basically any attack, Huckit Crabs can also be lifted into the air by Waterspouts if they walk backward into one and the rocks they throw can be raised in elevation by the Waterspouts. Huckit Crabs are slightly more common in these games than in New Super Mario Bros. Wii appearing a few levels of Sparkling Waters and other water areas, levels they appear in include Waterspout Beach, Huckit Beach Resort, and Porcu-Puffer Cavern.
Huckit Crabs make a reappearance in Mario Party 9. In this game, they are seen around an ashore Pirate Ship on Blooper Beach, when players land on a Event Space, the Huckit Crabs will fire the cannons on the Pirate Ship turning the Mini Stars around the board into Mini Ztars and vice versa. Several Huckit Crabs can also be seen around the board, the Huckit Crabs themselves have no other effect on the gameplay and only fire the cannons.
Mario Party: Island Tour[]
Huckit Crabs appear again in Mario Party: Island Tour during the minigame Match Faker as one of the possible selectable choices in the minigame alongside various other enemies and species.
Mario Party 10[]
Like most enemies from New Super Mario Bros. U, Huckit Crabs are seen yet again in Mario Party 10 appearing around Whimsical Waters, the Huckit Crabs however have no effect on the gameplay and are rather just seen as citizens of the underwater world. Huckit Crabs also make an appearance in the minigame Meanie Match as one of the possible selectable choices.
Mario Party: Star Rush[]
Huckit Crabs reappear in Mario Party: Star Rush, in this game, they can be seen jumping around to the beat of the music during the boss battle with Mega Blooper in the minigame, Mega Blooper's Bayside Bop. They also have a chance of appearing in the Pop Quiz minigame as well.
Super Mario Party[]
Huckit Crabs are back in Super Mario Party retaining a very similar role to past Mario Party games, this time, they can be seen during the minigame Smash and Crab where they are seen watching the minigame as the solo player tries to evade the teammates attacks from their Robotic Sidestepper Walker. A Huckit Crab is also seen in the minigame, Absent Minded as one of the selectable characters during the minigame.
Mario Party Superstars[]
Huckit Crabs appear once again in Mario Party Superstars. In this game, some Huckit Crabs can be seen around the Yoshi's Tropical Island board walking around or enjoying the view of the beach. The Huckit Crabs however have no effect on the gameplay and like past games in the Mario Party series, reprise their usual role as background characters.
In Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions[]
Huckit Crabs also appear in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions. In this game, they can be seen during the battle with Hermie III running across the beach as Mario and Luigi battle Hermie III however they have no impact on the boss fight and only serve as a background element (possibly as a distraction). The Huckit Crabs replace the Sidesteppers seen in the original Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, they also show up more frequently than the Sidesteppers did in the original.
In Dr. Mario World[]
Huckit Crabs return in Dr. Mario World as assistants to the main doctors.
Huckit Crabs are slightly similar to Crabbers and Sidesteppers and could be related to them, in more recent games, both Crab species have appeared less in the series in favor of the Huckit Crab.
Paper Mario: The Origami King however broke this trend by reintroducing the Sidestepper (alongside the Blue Sidestepper) in a non-spinoff game after many years.
