Super Mario Super Smash Bros.
Not to be confused with Podoboo, named "Hothead" in the German versions..

Hotheads are an enemy debuting in Super Mario World.

Profile[]

Physical description[]

Hotheads are fiery balls of sparking energy. They have a pair of eyes.

Behavior[]

A Hothead slowly travels around a platform. It moves slower than a Li'l Sparky, but is usually followed by them,

Habitats[]

In the platforming games, Hotheads only appear in fortress and castle levels.

In Super Mario series[]

Super Mario World[]

In Super Mario World, Hotheads appear in several castle and fortress levels such as Wendy's Castle and Bowser's Castle, sometimes along with Li'l Sparkies. Like Li'l Sparkies, Hotheads slowly circles around platforms, although they slower, possibly owing to their larger size. Similar to Li'l Sparkies and other tougher enemies in the game, Mario or Luigi can Spin Jump on Hotheads, but not defeat them. The only way to beat a Hothead is with a Starman.

Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3[]

Hotheads appear in Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3 as enemies in the e-Reader level, A Sky-High Adventure, but there are only two Hotheads in the level. Like Li'l Sparkies, Hotheads can be defeated by, Invincible Mario, Hammer Mario, and by Statue Mario.

In Super Princess Peach[]

Hotheads are enemies commonly found in Shriek Mansion and Bowser's Villa. They first appear in the level Hoo's Wood 2-8.

Hotheads once again retain their usual behaviors of moving along platforms at a slow pace. They once again are typically found near Li'l Sparkies however they are much more rare. Hotheads are effectively indestructible in this game and there is no attack that can defeat them. Due to this, Hotheads appear in the Glossary the moment they're encountered for the first time.

Crossover appearances[]

Super Smash Bros. series[]

Hothead Wii

Hotheads on the fighting arena in Super Smash Bros. Brawl

Hotheads appear as an item in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. When thrown, a Hothead sticks to the stage, like in Super Mario World, and they damage whoever touches it except the one who threw it. The Hothead can also grow larger if hit with fire or electric attacks, making it deal more damage. The Hothead disappears after a somewhat long amount of time. On stages with platforms with no edges, the Hothead simply falls of the stage.

Trivia[]

  • Coincidentally, Hothead is also the German name for the Podoboo, the two also initially shared a German name before the Hothead was given a distinct name in Super Princess Peach.
    • It could be possible that Hotheads and Podoboos are related as they both have similar eyes, both appear to be fiery creatures, not to mention them appearing in around the same sector of the glossary in Super Princess Peach.
