Hot Lips are lava-dwelling creatures which appear in the Yoshi's Island series, and make their debut in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island. They are similar to Spray Fish but unlike them, Hot Lips shoot spurts of lava out of their mouths instead of water. Hot Lips are more hazardous as touching the lava instantly defeats a Yoshi. Also, unlike Spray Fish, they inflate their cheek before shooting as an indicator that they are about to shoot out lava. A Yoshi can throw an Egg at a Hot Lips to knock it back into the lava temporarily, although the Hot Lips always manages to rise back out. Some Hot Lips prefer to shoot their lava across at a Yoshi rather than directly in the air like a Spray Fish.
Hot Lips utilizing either attack appear in the Island Museum of Yoshi's Island DS. Here, some lava drops manage to leave their exhibit to where Yoshi is, but the lava cannot defeat him here.
