"Hooded Robin and His Mario Men" is the twenty-fifth animated episode of The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!. It is paired with the live-action segment "Time Out Luigi."

Plot[]

Mario, Luigi, Princess Toadstool and Toad arrive in Sharewood Forest and are looking for Sharewood Village. However, they are captured in a net by a bunch of Koopa Troopas that believe them to be Hooded Robin. Before they can do anything more King Koopa's voice calls out saying to retreat as he wants daisies. The Koopa Troopas believe it is the Sheriff of Koopingham and leave. Just then, Hooded Robin (who resembles an Albatoss) appears and frees the Marios.

Later, the group goes to the village where they find that the Sheriff of Koopingham has stolen all their gold coins. Mario agrees to help get the coins back and Hooded Robin takes them in as his Mario Men. They attempt to steal the gold back from the Sheriff by setting up a toll road trap. The Sheriff doesn't go for it and the group fights. Though it seems the Mario Men have the upper hand Hooded Robin is caught in a trap and taken to the dungeon. The Mario Men are left behind.

Resolving to aid Hooded Robin the Mario Men infiltrate the castle and using a magic potion they manage to open the way into the dungeon. There they free Hooded Robin who seems to have been humbled by his experience. With Hooded Robin freed, they seek to regain the stolen coins but Fryguy guards the way. Disguising himself as a "Frygal," Hooded Robin leads Fryguy away. The Marios go to the treasure room and find that the Sheriff was waiting for them. Meanwhile, Hooded Robin loses his disguise and is chased off.

After a brief chase scene, Hooded Robin Manages to trap Fryguy in the treasury and the Sheriff is stuck to the ceiling with a plunger. Unfortunately, Fryguy melts all the coins in the treasury. Things look bad for getting the coins back but Mario builds a pipeline and sticks it into the molten gold and pumps it away.

Back at the village, the Marios reveal that the gold goes straight into the town pump and all they have to do to get it back is work the pump. Hooded Robin decides that all of this calls for a celebration and is delighted to have the Marios join.

Trivia/Goofs[]

  • This episode parodies the Robin Hood legend.
  • At one point a Koopa Troopa is shown to talk but his mouth doesn't move.
  • There are several instances of the wrong voice coming from the wrong mouth: Hooded Robin's voice comes from King Koopa's mouth and later Mario's voice comes from a Koopa Troopa's mouth. At the fake road toll booth, Toad's voice can be heard coming from King Koopa.
  • This episode suggests that Fryguy's species includes both male and female members, contracting the Super Mario Bros. 2 manual, which suggests Fryguy is the only member of his species.
  • The Marios fall straight down from the net but somehow manage to land in bushes a few feet away from where the net was sprung.
  • This is the only time the Princess is shown to use a magic potion.
  • Mario, the Princess and Luigi have feathers on their heads during the episode.
