Hidden Mansion is an unlockable mode in Luigi's Mansion and its Nintendo 3DS version.

In Luigi's Mansion series[]

Luigi's Mansion (Nintendo GameCube)[]

LM Hidden Mansion

The star at the bottom-right corner indicates that one is in the Hidden Mansion

Once Luigi has been completed the adventure for the first time, the quest can be restarted in the normal mansion or the "Hidden Mansion," by selecting the menu option from Professor E. Gadd in The Lab. In the original Japanese and North American releases, the Hidden Mansion has only two differences: a Poltergust 3000 that is 1.5× stronger, allowing for ghosts to be captured more quickly, and Luigi taking twice as much damage when hurt. A yellow star at the bottom-right corner of the screen is shown whenever Luigi is in the Hidden Mansion.

The European and Australian versions of Luigi's Mansion received several additional changes:

  • The entire mansion layout is now mirrored from left to right.
  • There are more ghosts around the mansion, and more powerful ghosts are also encountered earlier than in the regular Mansion.
  • The area bosses have different attacks. Chauncey now summons much larger rocking horses, which swerve left to right instead of going straight. During the Boolossus battle, Luigi now rides around on the Poltergust 3000, making his movement more slippery.
  • Boos are usually more agile and therefore harder to catch. While most Boos have more HP, some actually have lowered HP, but other Boos keep theirs the same. Boos with less HP are often much faster, and they can leave a room in seconds.
  • There are fewer opportunities to obtain Hearts, and locations where hearts could originally be found in the first Mansion do not retain them.
  • A Speedy Spirit or a Gold Mouse always drops a Blue Diamond upon being caught, raising the maximum possible amount of money from 142,390,000G to 186,440,000G.
  • The amount of money required an A rank was increased from 100,000,000G to 150,000,000G, so getting an A rank is only possible in the Hidden Mansion, not the regular Mansion.
  • 45 Boos are required to fight King Boo at the end instead of 40.

Luigi's Mansion (Nintendo 3DS)[]

The Hidden Mansion retains most of its differences from the original PAL version, except the Hidden Mansion is no longer mirrored, and Luigi no longer rides his Poltergust 3000 during the Boolossus battle. In addition to this, the Nintendo 3DS version provides even more differences to the Hidden Mansion:

  • All ghosts, including Portrait Ghosts and Boos, have 1.5× HP. As such, it can be possible to obtain more pearls from Portrait Ghosts.
  • Hearts are replaced by Poison Mushrooms, but hearts can still be obtained by catching two or more ghosts simultaneously. There is also a chance of a heart appearing during the King Boo battle when the Bowser statue destroys a pillar.
  • The locations of Speedy Spirits have been changed.
  • The Sealed Room's money yield has been changed, but the total value stays the same as the GameCube version.
  • Mario's item locations have been changed, except his star, which is still in the Observatory:
  • Platinum Portrait Ghosts can now be obtained, but under stricter conditions:
    • For non-boss ghosts, Luigi must drain 140 HP in one go. It is possible to get more pearls by doing so.
    • For boss ghosts, Luigi must finish the battle with at least 95 HP remaining.
  • Bogmire now only appears in one location for a few seconds before reappearing in another.
  • The explosive Spiked Balls thrown by the Bowser suit explode seconds upon being thrown the first time, but not necessarily the second time.
