- Not to be confused with Hermit Crab or Huckit Crab.
Hermite Crabs are an enemy in Mario & Luigi: Dream Team.
Profile[]
Physical description[]
Hermite Crabs are small, red crabs.
Behavior[]
Hermite Crabs use coconuts in a variety of ways. In the field, each Hermite Crab hides under its own coconut, but a Hermite Crab sometimes picks it up and chases Mario and Luigi if they are nearby. While holding a coconut, a Hermite Crab can also approach either Mario or Luigi and throw the coconut at them. If the Mario brother is within the Hermite Crab's planned movement path, he must jump after the coconut flies over his head and before the Hermite Crab rushes into him.
In battle, a Hermite Crab hides under its coconut during Mario and Luigi's turn. Hermite Crabs move between coconuts every few seconds to make it hard for the Mario Bros. to keep track of them. Mario or Luigi has to attack the coconut to remove it from battle, but if there is a Hermite Crab under, this leaves it open for attack. If a Hermite Crab is under a coconut, it sometimes goes out of it briefly to throw more coconuts into the battle, giving the Hermite Crabs more hiding places.
To attack, a Hermite Crab picks up its coconut and throws it high into the air above Mario or Luigi. It then approaches the bro it targeted and is idle until the coconut lands onto him. It is possible for Mario or Luigi to counter the attack by swinging his hammer at the right time to both knock the coconut away and hit the Hermite Crab. If the Hermite Crab stutters backwards when picking up the coconut it plans to throw, the Hermite Crab approaches the bro it did not target, although this gives said Mario brother a chance to damage the Hermite Crab by swinging his hammer at it. The moment before the coconut hits the other bro, who must counter the coconut using his Hammer, the Hermite Crab steps away from the one not targeted by the coconut.
In Mario & Luigi: Dream Team[]
Hermite Crabs are only encountered in Wakeport. There is a larger Hermite Crab creature in the boss battles against Heavy Zest and Big Massif. If a large Hermite Crab is run into, their coconut is hit and instantly defeats several Hooraws in the background. Hermite Crabs also have a stronger variant named Hermite Crab R.
Behind the scenes[]
Etymology[]
Hermite Crabs are named after the real-world "hermit crab" species, despite only being regular crabs.
