The Helicopter is a recurring transformation used by the Yoshis throughout the Yoshi's Island series. It first appears in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island.
Description[]
This power-up turns a Yoshi into the likeness of a helicopter, with whirling blades allowing him to fly around. It appears in every game of the Yoshi's Island series.
In Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island and Yoshi's Island DS, Morph Bubbles depicting a Helicopter transform Yoshi into this form, but in Yoshi's New Island this is done from a Whirly Gate instead. Upon transforming into a Helicopter, the Yoshi can make use of this form by flying until either reaching a nearby Yoshi Block or upon hitting a Time Limit. The Helicopter is often used to locate Coins, Smiley Flowers and secret paths. Like the other transformations, if the Time Limit has been reached, the Yoshi spirals back to the location of the Morph Bubble and returns to his regular form. If a Yoshi hits an enemy while in Helicopter form, he falls down in a straight line for about a second, during which he cannot be moved around.

Yoshi's Island DS[]

Yoshi's New Island[]
The Helicopter once again makes an appearance, but is now controlled by tilting the Nintendo 3DS rather than by using the D-Pad.
In Mario Kart: Double Dash!![]
A green Helicopter makes a cameo appearance in both Yoshi Circuit and Baby Park. It is an actual vehicle, not a Yoshi transformed into one, and the Helicopter does not appear in subsequent iterations of the courses in later Mario Kart installments.
