The Heart is a Special Item introduced in Mario Kart: Double Dash!!. The Heart is associated with Princess Peach in all of its appearances, and the Heart has a tendency to be associated with female playable characters in general.
In Mario Kart series[]
Mario Kart: Double Dash!![]
It is Princess Peach and Princess Daisy's Special Item, but is also usable by Petey Piranha and King Boo as they can use any Special Item. The item is used almost like a shield. There are two hearts that rotate around the team on the kart. When an item hits the team with Hearts surrounding their kart, they do not take damage from it, but rather the item becomes their own. This can only occur twice, as one Heart is used up each time this occurs.
The Hearts do not protect from a Chain Chomp, Spiny Shell, or Bob-omb explosion attacks. A Lightning strike does not affect a Kart surrounded by Hearts, but it does cause them to lose every Heart, something that also occurs if a Heart-protect kart falls off-course.
Mario Kart Tour[]
This item can be used by Wendy, Peach, and Daisy as a shield to protect them from getting hit by an item. The heart retains its light pink coloration, but no longer shows a smiling mouth.
In Mario Sports Mix[]
The heart returns as Peach's special move. Upon using the move, Peach releases four hearts that stun whoever it hits.
