The Hammer Bros. Sphinx[1] is a landmark featured in desert-themed courses of the Mario Kart series. It first appears in Mario Kart 8.

Description[]

The Hammer Bros. Sphinx is designed after the Great Sphinx of Giza, but with a Hammer Bro face. It only ever appears as a background element, not a location that can be explored, and it was only ever given an official name on a Mario Kart series' Facebook post in 2014. According to the post, some speculate the Hammer Bros. Sphinx to be cursed, something that is not shown in the game.

In Mario Kart series[]

Mario Kart 8 / Mario Kart 8 Deluxe[]

The Hammer Bros. Sphinx appears in GCN Dry Dry Desert, where it replaces the regular sphinx statue from the original Mario Kart: Double Dash!! iteration of the course. It can be seen near the bend following right after the oasis.

Mario Kart Tour[]

As of the 2023 Ninja Tour, the Hammer Bros. Sphinx makes another background appearance, specifically within Wii Dry Dry Ruins, where it replaces the Yoshi sphinx from the original Mario Kart Wii version, similar to how it replaced the regular sphinx for GCN Dry Dry Ruins's reappearance in Mario Kart 8. In Wii Dry Dry Ruins, the Hammer Bros. Sphinx can be found in the vicinity of the branching path between the finish line and the oasis.

In Mario Tennis Aces[]

Small statues based on the Hammer Bros. Sphinx decorate the surroundings of the Bask Ruins court.
