- Not to be confused with Green Power Star.
Green Stars are green-colored Stars that appear in Super Mario 3D World as well as Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury. They function similarly to Star Medals from Super Mario 3D Land and Star Coins from the New Super Mario Bros. series however there are some levels (such as the Captain Toad levels, Enemy Blockades and the Mystery Houses) which contain more or less Green Stars. The Green Stars can be found in various locations of each level and using the heroes' abilities is necessary to obtaining all of them.
History[]
Super Mario 3D World / Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury[]
Green Stars are first seen in Super Mario 3D World and later go onto appear in Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury. In these games, Green Stars are found scattered around the courses and utilizing each of the heroes' abilities is necessary for obtaining them, sometimes the Green Stars can be hidden in secret areas and the heroes' need to look high and low for them to find them. Collecting a Green Star will also award 4000 points. Green Stars are the replacement for Star Medals, and by extension, Star Coins in these games. Collecting the Green Stars is one of the necessary requirements to beating the game 100%, there are 380 Green Stars in all for this installment. How many Green Stars can be found in a course depend on the stage in question:
- Normal & Castle Courses have 3 Green Stars.
- Blockades & Boss Blockades have 1 Green Star.
- Captain Toad Courses (nearly exclusive to odd numbered Worlds) have 5 Green Stars.
- Mystery Houses (exclusive to even numbered Worlds) vary, swinging between 5 or 10 Stars, except for the last one in World Crown, which has 30 Green Stars.

Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker[]
Green Stars appear again in Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker (the Wii U version only), in this game, one Green Star is seen soaring through the skies as Captain Toad and Toadette are riding in their mine cart during the ending, upon sight of the emerald twinkle, Captain Toad ditches Toadette in the mine cart and chases after the Green Star comet which proceeds to fall in a Clear Pipe. Captain Toad then proceeds to chase the Green Star into the Clear Pipe (after Mario, Luigi, Peach, and Toad enter it chasing Bowser who has kidnapped the Sprixie Princess) entering the Sprixie Kingdom. In the bonus levels of the game, a Green Star marks the level's goal instead of a regular Power Star.
Trivia[]
- Green Stars strongly resemble the Green Power Stars from the Super Mario Galaxy games however those Green Stars are used to power-up the Comet Observatory and Starship Mario while these Green Stars function similarly to Star Coins and Star Medals.
