Green Hill Zone is a location from the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, in which it first appears in the 16-bit Sonic the Hedgehog. It has made a few appearances in Mario-related media, the first time being in Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games for Wii.
Description[]
Green Hill Zone is a grassland area with distinct terrain consisting of grass with a pattern of light green and dark green stripes and soil with a light brown and dark brown checkered pattern. Green Hill Zone is an iconic location in the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, comparably to Super Mario Bros.'s World 1-1, as Green Hill Zone is the first area in the 16-bit Sonic the Hedgehog game.

Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games (Wii)[]
In the "Gallery" section, one of the two backgrounds for the Count Master mini-game is Green Hill Zone, which appears in the second, fourth and final levels. The Green Hill Zone theme is also an unlockable.
Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games (Wii)[]
A background based on the Green Hill Zone appears in Dream Figure Skating for the first segment of the Sonic's World routine.
Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games[]
Green Hill Zone is where the Dream Event Hole-In-One Curling takes place. It more closely resembles its appearance from Sonic Generations, though the default music track is Splash Hill Zone from Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode I.

Green Hill Zone is the setting for the stage of the same name in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
