Super Mario Mario Golf

Bowser Statues, (alternatively named Laser Statues, Statues of Bowser, or Gray Bowser Statues in their earlier appearances), are a recurring object in the Mario franchise. They first appear in Super Mario Bros. 3. Bowser Statues are statues modeled after Bowser himself, they can often be seen around his Castles, while most Bowser Statues are mere sculptures of Bowser, some are also sentient and possess the ability to shoot lasers or streams of fire.

Description[]

Bowser Statues are sculptures made in the likeness of Bowser, and they are usually made from stone. Some Bowser Statues are hazardous because they can breathe out fire or shoot laser beams whenever a character is nearby. Bowser Statues are generally found within castles and other dark buildings owned by Bowser and the Koopa Troop. Bowser Statues are indestructible in a majority of their appearances, and therefore have to be avoided.

Super Mario Bros. 3[]

Bowser Statues make their debut in Super Mario Bros. 3, in this game, they can be found in latter Castle levels such as World 8-Bowser's Castle. Bowser Statues remain perfectly motionless until Mario/Luigi approaches at which point they will awaken and shoot a laser at the plumbers. Bowser Statues are completely indestructible in this game and cannot be destroyed in any way, the plumbers can only time their movements and avoid their attacks.

Super Mario World[]

Bowser Statues (under the name Gray Bowser Statues in this game) appear again in Super Mario World, in this game, they can be found in Bowser's Castle and this time, shoot out fire, to reflect Bowser's fire-breathing ability, if Mario or Luigi approach them. Once again, Bowser Statues are completely invincible and cannot be destroyed. Gray Bowser Statues were given a variation named Gold Bowser Statues, which are capable of moving.

Super Princess Peach[]

Bowser Statues are seen again in Super Princess Peach. In this game, they can be found during the battle with Bowser himself in Bowser's Villa on either side of the arena. Peach can trick Bowser into attacking and smashing a Bowser Statue with either his charge attack or his ground pound attack. If Bowser destroys a Bowser Statue, a Vibe Crystal will be released for Peach to collect. Bowser Statues are completely motionless in this game and have no means of attack.

New Super Mario Bros.[]

Bowser Statues appear once again in New Super Mario Bros., here, they can be seen in the background of the hallways leading to Bowser, Dry Bowser, and Giant Bowser/Bowser Jr. in World 1-Castle, World 8-Castle, and World 8-Bowser's Castle. Bowser Statues are merely a background feature in this game and don't possess any attacks. In the minigames Danger, Bob-omb! Danger! and Run, Bob-omb, Run! a Mechanical Bowser is seen spewing streams of fire from the top screen trying to scorch the Bob-ombs below.

Super Mario Galaxy[]

Bowser Statues appear in Super Mario Galaxy once again as harmless stone obstacles. In this game, they can be found in several Galaxies such as the Ghostly Galaxy and Bowser's Galaxy Reactor. In the former, they can be seen around the haunted manor during the Beware of Bouldergeist mission. Here, they can be destroyed by utilizing the Bomb Boos, upon being destroyed, the often drop a Coin, one Bowser Statue is also seen blocking the Launch Star on the side yard of the mansion and must be destroyed in order to advance. Bowser Statues can also be seen during the final sector of Bowser's Galaxy Reactor, here they can be seen around the lava tube planet. These Bowser Statues can be destroyed by luring a Bullet Bill into one, often times this will release a Coin or a 1-Up Mushroom.

Super Mario Galaxy 2[]

Mysterious Bowser Statue

The mysteriously lone Bowser Statue in the Boo Moon Galaxy.

Bowser Statues return in Super Mario Galaxy 2, in this game, they can be found in Bowser's Lava Lair as a hazard that must be avoided. As Mario/Luigi approaches them, the two adjacent Bowser Statues will face eachother and spit streams of electricity which the plumbers must jump over. A single mysterious Bowser Statue can be found in the Boo Moon Galaxy on the starting planet (alongside a Bowser Jr. Statue). A large Bowser Statue can also be seen near the end of Bowser's Galaxy Generator however this one is merely there for decorative purposes and is not hazardous.

New Super Mario Bros. 2[]

Bowser Statues are seen again in New Super Mario Bros. 2, in this game, they merely appear as a head and can be found in World 6-5 and World Star-7. These Bowser Statues are attached to walls and spit large Fireballs which travel across the air. The Bowser Statues are indestructible and cannot be destroyed in any way, several Bowser Statues can also be seen during the battles with Giant Bowser and Giant Dry Bowser. These Bowser Statues can be seen along the walls and spit homing fireballs.

New Super Mario Bros. U / New Super Luigi U / New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe[]

Although Bowser Statues don't appear in New Super Mario Bros. U, New Super Luigi U, and New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe, a similar hazardous object called the Bowser Amp does. These objects have the ability to shoot electrical currents.

Super Mario 3D World / Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury[]

Bowser Statues return in Super Mario 3D World and Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury, in this game, they appear whenever the path to a locked level is unlocked blocking access to the level until the required amount of Green Stars is collected. Once the required Green Star amount is collected, the Bowser Statue is destroyed unlocking the level.

Super Mario Maker / Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS / Super Mario Maker 2[]

Bowser Statues also appear in Super Mario Maker as well as it's two sequels as placeable background objects. The Bowser Statues can be placed in any style in these games and are completely harmless due to their status as background objects (similar to how they were in New Super Mario Bros.).

Super Mario Odyssey[]

Bowser Statues are back in Super Mario Odyssey. In this game, they can be found in the Moon Kingdom (more specifically in the Underground Moon Caverns). The Bowser Statues are once again harmless indestructible objects, some Bowser Statues can also be captured and moved to reveal hidden secrets such a Coins or even a Power Moon. Gold Bowser Statues can also be seen around Bowser's Kingdom.

During battle, if Mario is at least level 30, there is a extremally rare chance of the Bowser Statue stage event happening after Mario and his partner move. A Bowser Statue will come on stage and crush all enemies. It will do 5 damage to all enemies, and a chance to give them the dizzy status.

Paper Mario: Sticker Star[]

A giant Bowser Statue composed of snow and ice called the Bowser Snow Statue appears in Paper Mario: Sticker Star as the boss of Bowser's Snow Fort and by extent World 4 the Snow Island. The Bowser Snow Statue is later revealed to serve as extra body layers for Mizzter Blizzard who guards the blue Royal Sticker.

Bowser Statues appear in Mario & Luigi: Dream Team, in this game, they can be found in the corridors of the higher floors of Neo Bowser Castle shooting streams of fire periodically. Mario and Luigi have to either use their Side Drill or their Ball Hop abilities to bypass the flames spewed by the Bowser Statues. Being hit by the flames will send the plumbers back to where they came from.

Mario Tennis Aces[]

Mario does battle with a colossal Bowser Statue.

In Mario Tennis Aces, a Bowser Statue appears as a boss fought at Bowser's Castle in the mission "Battle the Treasure Guardian!" The statue deploys a forcefield around itself in battle and launches sets of three fireballs at Mario, which must be knocked back; failing to do so turns them into a stage hazard which must be avoided so be sure to hit them back when possible. The statue then fires a laser beam that sets the ground ablaze and finishes with a giant purple fireball that can deal a lot of damage when knocked back. This process repeats until the statue runs out of health, and Mario must avoid Meteors to perform a Zone Shot at the statue's mouth.

In the second phase, the statue repeatedly shoots streams of fire at Mario and serves fireballs, but this time with more even spacing. After firing a second Zone Shot, the statue sweeps streams of fire before resuming the same ball-serving mechanics as in the second phase.

Upon firing the third and final Zone Shot, the Power Stone in the Bowser Statue's monstrous mouth seemingly disintegrates, and brainwashed versions of Wario and Waluigi take the stone.

Mario Golf: Super Rush[]

A single giant Bowser Statue can be seen in the the lava lakes of Bowser Highlands, several Podoboos can be seen leaping around it. This Bowser Statue does not have any impact on the games and is merely there for decorative purposes.

Mario Kart series[]

Mario Kart 64[]

Bowser Statues appear in Mario Kart 64. In this game, they can be found in Bowser's Castle and can be seen breathing streams of fire. One Bowser Statue is seen in the castle's courtyard and four others are seen in a corridor patrolled by Thwomps. The one in the garden can scorch any racers that come near the flame streams while the other four are too high to be considered hazardous.

Mario Kart: Double Dash!![]

Although no regular Bowser Statues appear in Mario Kart: Double Dash!!, a Mechanical Bowser appears. It can be found in Bowser's Castle and attacks by spewing Fireballs at racers.

Mario Kart Wii[]

Bowser Statues appear again in Mario Kart Wii in the returning N64 Bowser's Castle course from Mario Kart 64. In this game, one Bowser Statue can be seen in the castle's courtyard while four more are seen in a Thwomp-guarded hallway. The four in the hallway are too high and as a result, their fire streams are unable to hit any racers while the one in the garden is low enough to not only hit a racer but to keep it in place for the duration of it's fire stream causing him/her to fall far behind so avoid the fire at all costs. The Mechanical Bowser also returns in this game this time appearing in the game's new Bowser's Castle.

Mario Kart 8 / Mario Kart 8 Deluxe[]

Bowser Statues return in Mario Kart 8 and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe appearing at the entrance of Bowser's Castle. These Bowser Statues shoot streams of lasers at any racers, any racers hit by the lasers will be spun out, the range of the lasers increases with every lap. There is also a Bowser Statue at the end of the hallway pointing to the right indicating the next directional turn. A large Bowser Statue similar to the Mechanical Bowser called the Bowser Monument appears as a hazard in this course as well.

Mario Party 2[]

Bowser Statues appear in Mario Party 2. In this game, they can be found in 2 vs. 2 minigame Destruction Duet, here, two pairs of players are inside a room with a Bowser Statue and they must work as a team to destroy their Bowser Statue the quickest. Whichever team destroys their Bowser Statue first is the winner.

Mario Party 6[]

Bowser Statues return in Mario Party 6, here, they can be found in the Bowser Mini-game Dizzy Rotisserie. The players are in a room whilst dizzy which makes their controls wonky. There are several Bowser Statues around the room which serve as road blocks as the players try to locate the exit. Any players who fail to locate the exit within the time limit are scorched by the Bowser Statues. A Gold Bowser Statue is also seen in the minigame Seer Terror.

Mario Party 8[]

Bowser Statues are seen in Mario Party 8. In this game, they can be seen in the minigame Punch-a-Bunch. Players are each provided with a Bowser Statue which they need to punch repeatedly in order to destroy. The player who demolishes his/her Bowser Statue first is the winner.

Mario Party: The Top 100[]

The four players weave around the Bowser Statues once again.

Bowser Statues appear again in Mario Party: The Top 100 in the returning minigame Dizzy Rotisserie. Just as before, the players are dizzy thus making their controls wonky. The Bowser Statues serve as road blocks as the players try to locate the exit and those that fail to reach the exit within the time limit are scorched by the Bowser Statues.

Super Mario World television series[]

Bowser Statues, make sporadic appearances in the Super Mario World animated series. In the episode "Send in the Clown," a Bowser Statue attacks Mario with a fireball while he is traversing Neon Castle. Later in the same episode, Mario unintentionally encounters another Bowser Statue that spits a fireball at him. Fortunately, Mario narrowly avoids it, and the fireball hits his Chargin' Chuck pursuers instead.
