Gorilla Glacier (also known as Ice World and Volcano)[1] is the highest part of Donkey Kong Island which was the fourth location from Donkey Kong Country & DK: King of Swing as a icy area and the eighth location from Donkey Kong Country Returns as a volcanic zone.
Overview[]
At the heights of the island is covered with snow, ice crystals inside the glacier, a frozen lake, dark cave and a small pine forest. When this glacier is melted by Tiki Tong becoming a volcano, several Tiki temples and Kongs & dinosaurs statues were revealed.
History[]
In Donkey Kong Country, this slippery glacier by DK & Diddy as the fouth stage of the journey to recover the Banana Hoard. Here the duo survived this snowy area with heavy blizzards, sliding vertically on ropes in the cavernous ice crystals, escaping from blue Croctopuses underwater, meeting the Squawks for the first time, passing through yet another treetop town and had the battle against Really Gnawty to retrieve the fourth banana.
In DK: King of Swing named Ice World, is the second time explored by DK again as the fourth location of the journey to recover the medals by King K. Rool. He had to explore the forest, struggled in a frozen ravine, dove into underwater ruins and battled with Kritters in an ice castle until he faced Sassy Squatch.
In Donkey Kong Country Returns named Volcano, was explored by the duo for the third time as the last location of the journey to recover bananas from hoard. They had to watch out for the Char-Chars that spread all over the volcano, risked destruction in a Rocket Barrel & Mine Cart ride, devastated rock barriers with Rambi in the midst from steam, escaped from fireballs, survived an eruption and reached the tower to battle Tiki Tong.

Donkey Kong Country[]
- instruction booklet (page 21): The snowcapped peaks of Donkey Kong Country are rarely climbed due to the hazardous conditions found at such high elevations. The ground is like solid ice and does not offer a firm foothold for the explorer. Blinding blizzards often strike without warning. The resulting lack of visibility can make the already challenging obstacles in this area next to impossible!
- Prima Official Game Guide (page 91): You spend most of the time in icy outdoor environments, freezing your fur off and stopping sooner than expected to avoid a nasty fall. Some of the stages are initially confusing (such as Ice Age Alley and Slipslide Ride) and you may think the exit is never coming—hang in there and pull off an eventual completion. Then return to master the stages.
Donkey Kong Country Returns[]
- Prima Official Game Guide (page 21): The Volcano is the eighth and most dangerous world on the island. Hot lava bubbles below the platforms while fireballs and Char-Chars fly through the air threatening to singe your fur. Expect lots of flaming Tikis as you jump across narrow platforms that sink down into the lava. When you step into the Volcano, you definitely know that the heat is on. Keep a cool head as you progress through these levels, ultimately reaching the final boss. Tiki Tong.
