Goonies are seagull-like creatures appearing in several games. They are commonly found in mountains or beaches and are typically seen flying around. Goonies make their debut appearance in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island and many games have featured them since. Goonies aren't typically aggressive and merely just fly around the skies however they are still harmful to those that run into them. Jumping on their heads is a good way to hitch a ride; but when they appear in large flocks, air traffic becomes a major obstacle. Some Goonies are also seen carrying Shy Guys around and drop them whenever someone walks underneath them, attacking a Goonie will cause it's wings to come off turning it into a Flightless Goonie. Goonies first appeared in the Yoshi series but have since made a couple Mario series appearances as well.

Attacking a Goonie will cause it's wings to come off turning it into a Flightless Goonie, Goonies can be defeated with swallows. There is a Dry Bones-like variety of Goonie that also appears in these games, called the Skeleton Goonie, these guys also have flightles counterparts (Flightless Skeleton Goonies), there are also Bowling Goonies and Very Goonies which also appear. Skeleton Goonies and Flightless Skeleton Goonies also appear, a large Very Goonie named Moltz the Very Goonie appears as the mid-boss of World 5, after Moltz the Very Goonie's defeat, all the later levels have Skeleton Goonies which seems to suggest that the Goonies in World 5 went extinct with the defeat of their master. Hitting a Goonie with an egg will cause it to appear in the Museum, Goonies appear in the Airborne Enemy Exhibit of the Museum.
