"Goodbye Mr. Fish" is the fifty-sixth live-action segment of The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!. It is paired with the animated episode "The Provolone Ranger."

Plot[]

Mario is busily eating when the doorbell rings. Luigi grumpily answers and finds that it's Mrs. Periwinkle, who wants Luigi to look after her goldfish Kenneth for a few hours while she goes horseback riding. Luigi is reluctant but Mario openly agrees. Mrs. Periwinkle thanks Mario and claims that Kenneth is very important to her. Luigi scolds Mario for his agreement but Mario sees no trouble with it. Kenneth then asks Mario for a meatball which he gladly gives.

In spite of Mario's warning Kenneth swallows the meatball whole and dies. Mario and Luigi now have a problem since they don't want to have to tell Mrs. Periwinkle that her fish is dead. They ask the Ratigator if he's seen any goldfish in the sewers but he gives them a rather large fish that would never pass for a real goldfish.

Mrs. Periwinkle finally shows up and Mario hides. Luigi tries to lie about the fate of the fish but can't. He starts to tell her what happened but lets Mario finish it instead. Luckily, before Mario can tell Mrs. Periwinkle Kenneth is dead, the Ratigator comes through and gives them a new goldfish. Happy with the way Mario took care of her fish, Mrs. Periwinkle tries to pay Mario but he declines payment. Luigi, however, believes they should start charging people for fish sitting.
