Glohm is a toxic energy or substance from Mario & Luigi: Brothership. It is one of the main weapons of the Zokket Army, and is first mentioned in a cutscene where Zokket, during his first visit to Shipshape Island, mentions its name and describes its role in his plan to destroy Concordia. The Zokket Army weaponises this dangerous substance.
Description[]
As a Substance[]
Glohm is a red, volatile vapour that has the appearance of fire. Anyone infected by Glohm will be tinted red, and will become more violent. The disease can be cured by feeding the victim with an Ampberry.
As a Status Effect[]
Certain attacks can cause a Mario Bro. to get infected by Glohm. Should Glohm infect a Bro., combo moves, Special Attacks and Luigi Logic cannot be performed as though the other brother were dead. Curing Glohm with a Refreshing Herb may fail half the time, but an Ampberry always cures it.
Known Victims[]
- Mario and Luigi -- May be infected if hit by certain attacks from enemies infected with the substance. Zokket can also cause this during the second half of his fight and turn the infected Bro. onto the one who is not infected.
- Several Citizens
- Bulbfish Island Guard -- Infected by a boomerang-wielding Mettozokettohei variant.
- Prince Chilliam -- Infected when the Extension Corps sneaks aboard Shipshape Island. His lovebird, Princess Burnadette, is horrified by the transformation and requests that Mario and Luigi take away the infection. He is later cured via Ampberry thanks to another Concordian named Vulko.
- Furen -- Infected when the Extension Corps kidnaps Bowser Jr.; cured via Ampberry a few minutes later.
- Bowser -- Attacked by Zokket's Glohmatic Quad-Ray when the former tries to rescue his son from the latter. Bowser's infected form is called "Glohm Bowser" during dialogue and in combat. He is defeated in combat and cured.
- Gorumbla -- Infected during the endgame, causing much damage much to the wrath of Chief Willma.
Glohm Enemies[]
Sometimes, enemies can be corrupted by this toxic substance. Enemies that get infected with Glohm have darker red tints and glowing eyes and stronger stats than their regular forms, and can gain unnatural abilities, such as forming a shield around their body (which cannot be jumped on in certain cases and takes one or two hits to break), creating copies of themselves and shuffling around (not unlike Cackletta or Beta Kretin), launching a counterattack upon getting struck, launching a fiery ring attack akin to the Ring Burner, Ring Beamer, or Pulse Beam when slain, getting a temporary stat boost (especially to Attack Power). If the player defeats at least 150 total Glohm-infected enemies, the Glohm Buster challenge is fulfilled.
Defeating an enemy infected with Glohm may reveal Glohm Crystals, Glohm Fragments, and/or Glohm Dust along with regular loot drops.
Behind the Scenes[]
Etymology[]
Glohm's name could come from the word "gloom" or "gloomy." It's also derived from Ohm, which is the unit of Electrical Resistance.
