Gilbert the Gooey's Castle is the eighth level of World 1 in Yoshi's Island DS, it is the game's first Scary Castle and a Blue Yoshi takes control in this level. This level consists of a few pools of lava which can be easily crossed with the Flatbed Ferries and there are several Gooey Goons located around the castle. Overall, this level is easier than Castle of the Big Burt Bros., there isn't really anything to worry about in particular, even the boss is easier. The boss of this level is none other than Gilbert the Gooey, a yellow Gooey Goon enlarged by Kamek's magic and the overall boss of World 1.
Layout[]
Starting off at the entrance, advance to the right and collect the Coins along the bridges, watch out for the Gooey Goons that spring from the roof and start swaying as you walk the bridges, there is also a Winged Cloud here that contains five Stars, continue moving to the right and hop onto the Flatbed Ferry moving along the pool of lava, high above the Flatbed Ferry, there are three Fly Guys holding three Red Coins each, launch eggs at them to obtain the Red Coins and continue onward, to the right, more Gooey Goons will attempt to swing at you, avoid or defeat them and avoid the Ball 'n' Chains here as well, there is a Red Coin above the first Ball 'n' Chain and a Smiley Flower above the second one, grab them both and continue along the path, before entering the Pipe at the corridor's end, smash the soft stone blocking the rock slab with an egg to cause it to fall down it t gap allowing you to access the niche containing four Red Coins, Coins, and a Smiley Flower, after this, enter the Pipe.
In the next area, hop onto the Flatbed Ferry and remain on there, there are two Red Coins in the Coin line, grab them (watch out for the Co-Blarggs which emerge from the lava) and jump onto the Ferris Wheel, there are three Red Coins here too, grab them and then jump onto the planked platform and two Gooey Goons will drop down and start swinging, grab the two Red Coins above these guys and continue onward, the next Ferris Wheel has a Smiley Flower above it, grab it and continue along the path and down the staircase to tag the Middle Ring, next, hit the Winged Cloud and this will create a staircase leading to a Stork Stop switch out to Baby Peach (if you're not already) and return back down, you will see two doors here, one is locked while the other leads to a secret room containing the Baby Coin, use the wind to glide up to the upper platforms and hit the Winged Cloud here to obtain the Key, next, drop down and in the corner, hit the invisible Winged Cloud for some easy Stars, there are lots of two Red Coins on either side of the Ball 'n' Chain, grab them with egg tosses (as they're too high to reach with mere jumps) and head right, (there is another Winged Cloud in a niche high above, this can be reached with a Yoshi Egg for a 1-Up), avoid the Ball 'n' Chain and head back down grab the Red Coin above the Pipe and then enter it, there is a Stork Stop in here as well as yet another Smiley Flower, grab it and then exit the Pipe, move to the left and hop across the Flatbed Ferries above the lava, there is a Winged Cloud above, hit it to grab the Smiley Flower that emerges, avoid the Gargantua Blargg that makes attempts to attack you as you cross the lava pool and use the key to enter the locked door.
In the next room, there are sets of three Gooey Goons which swing from the ceiling, beat the Gooey Goons and hit the Winged Cloud here with an egg for some more Stars, use the Stork Stop to switch to a baby of your choosing and tag the Middle Ring before entering the red door.
Boss: Gilbert the Gooey[]
Upon entering the room, you will see a yellow Gooey Goon who Kamek enlarges into a colossal monster with twenty coloful blobs, Gilbert the Gooey. Gilbert the Gooey starts by bobbing up and down, during this part, you may want to stick to the sides of the arena with the platforms and when Gilbert stops bobbing to start swaying, take this time to slurp up as many of his blobs as you can, (once the blobs are swallowed you can either spit them back out or make eggs out of them (you can also spit them back out at other blobs or toss eggs at the blobs too)), if Gilbert stops at the top, use the Spring Balls on the lowest platforms to reach him, when you've stripped him of one half of his blobs, move to the other side, moving sides requires patience as when Gilbert is bobbing, it is near impossible to do it without losing Stars, if Gilbert stops to sway at the top, move to the other side normally but if he stops at the bottom, use the one of the Spring Balls and flutter across, the more blobs Gilbert loses, the faster he gets. Once Gilbert loses all of his blobs, he turns red and disappears World 1 is completed.
Fighting Gilbert the Gooey with Baby DK makes the fight incredibly easy as his powerful egg throws explode on impact wiping out more blobs however on your first visit, you don't have Baby DK unlocked as you need to complete Baby DK, the Jungle King! to unlock him.
Baby Coin Location[]
You will need Baby Peach for this Baby Coin, in the section with the locked door, enter the unlocked door below it and you will enter a room with four giant stone blocks being held by soft stones, be sure to hit the first, third, and fourth blocks but not the second one as you won't be able to reach the Baby Coin otherwise, also watch out to ensure you're not crushed by the stone blocks when they fall, then take the tunnel down and hop from the first stone to the third, next use the egg to release the second stone block and hop onto that and from there, hop to the fourth one to grab the Baby Coin.

- Yoshi has a weird animation when exiting the secret area through the Pipe in this level (as he faces straight when doing so), this was fixed in the Japanese version of the game.
- This level is similar to Castle of the Big Burt Bros. as both levels involve traversing lava while avoiding enemies, additionally, both have a section involving finding a Key which opens a locked door leading to the corridor where the boss door is.
