The Giant Gate (also known as the Goal Gate, Goal Post, and Exit Gate) is a large gate which first appears in Super Mario World. In its appearances, a Giant Gate serves as the goal at the end of every level except castles, fortresses and Switch Palaces.
In Super Mario series[]
Super Mario World[]
The Giant Gate looks like a larger version of the Midway Gate, and appears at the end of the level. If the player hits the horizontal pole, the player gains Goal Stars. Depending on the goal pole's position, the player gains a given amount of Goal Stars. After the player adds the Goal Stars to 100, the player can play a Bonus Game. The Goal Star counter restarts to zero.
There is only one Giant Gate by level, except the levels that feature two exits where there are two, one for each exit. Activating the Giant Gate of a level will also reset the Midway Gate of the same level.
Super Mario Maker/Super Mario Maker 2[]
The Goal Gate appears as the checkpoint in Super Mario World-themed levels. The player must hit the horizontal pole to complete the level.
