Ghost Blocks (also called Ghost Question Blocks or Ghost ? Blocks) are possessed Question Blocks that appear in various Ghost Houses of the New Super Mario Bros. series. They look very similar to Question Block with an obvious difference being the fact that their "?" doesn't move. They usually appear in groups and in the same formations as a group of Question Block however when approached, they glow pink and lift themselves into the air whilst making a very eerie sound before attacking, a trait shared with the Ghost Vases. If they hit Mario/Luigi, the plumbers will take damage so they will either need to jump out of the way or duck for cover to avoid them, if the Ghost Block hits a wall or flooring, it will shatter releasing a Coin, the same is true if it hits Mario/Luigi however this will deal damage so avoid this, a Ghost Block can also be destroyed with the effects of a Starman. In their debut, Ghost Blocks are incredibly rare only appearing in World 7-Ghost House in a secret room near the second Star Coin. They are much more common in New Super Mario Bros. U as well as New Super Luigi U and New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe as they appear in Haunted Shipwreck, Haunted Cargo Hold, Spinning Spirit House, and Vanishing Ghost House.
