Generators[1] are a type of goop in Super Mario Sunshine.

Description[]

Generators are thick puddles of goop always located around a large quantity of Goop. A large object, usually a building, is always found buried beneath the Generator. Brown and black generators can spawn Swoopin' Stus, and black ones continually replenish the goop surrounding them them. Mario cannot spray away a Generator using FLUDD. If he sprays a Generator for a few seconds, a Polluted Piranha Plant emerges from it, and the only way to get rid of the Generator and its surrounding Goop is by defeating the Polluted Piranha Plant. Following this, the object that was buried underneath the goop rises back out.

In Super Mario Sunshine[]

A Generator is first seen in Delfino Airstrip at the very start, where Mario has to fight a pink, orange, and yellow-colored Polluted Piranha Plant. Generators are later on found in Delfino Plaza on three separate occasions, the first time being a brown one under which the Grand Pianta Statue is buried, the second time being a black Generator burying the Boathouse, and the third and final time has a black Generator burying the Lighthouse.

In Bianco Hills's first mission, Road to the Big Windmill, there is a unique brown Generator that launches out goop-covered Piranhabons down the path in front of it every few seconds. If Mario is nearby, the Generator starts launching the Piranhabons in his direction. It stops launching them when Mario sprays it with F.L.U.D.D. and the Polluted Piranha appears. If Mario doesn't fight the Polluted Piranha Plant, it retreats back into the Generator, which resumes launching Piranhabons. In the same mission, there is a smaller brown Generator found in the grass in the middle of Windmill Village, separate from the other Goop, and it spawns Strollin' Stus endlessly. If Mario sprays this Generator for long enough, it pops like a bubble.
