Gaos are sphinx-like enemies which appear in Super Mario Land. They only appear in levels of the first world, Birabuto Kingdom. Gaos are servants of King Totomesu.
History[]
Gaos are stationary enemies that attack by spitting fireballs at Mario. They can even shoot fireballs backward, meaning Mario is not even safe when he gets behind one. A Gao can be defeated from either being jumped on or by tossing a Superball at it. Defeating a Gao earns the player 800 points.
