The Game & Watch is a series of handhelds created by Gunpei Yokoi back when he worked for Nintendo. Unlike the Game Boy and subsequent Nintendo handhelds, Game & Watch units did not use cartridges but rather had a single game built into them. The Game & Watch line of systems had a lifespan from 1980 to 1991, with its last game being Mario the Juggler.
The Game & Watch Gallery series consists of remakes of various Game & Watch games, and featured Mario characters, specifically within the Modern remakes, although remakes that play like the original Game & Watch handhelds were also included. Several Game & Watch games were also remade for the Nintendo DSi as downloadable digital software, specifically DSiWare, and would later be ported to the Nintendo 3DS.
In 2020, a new line of color-screen Game & Watches were introduced, with the first game being Game & Watch: Super Mario Bros..
