Fruits are an organic real-world food which have appeared throughout the Mario franchise and its spinoffs. They make their overall debut in Donkey Kong Jr.. Most fruits in Mario media exist in the real-world, such as apples and pineapples, although fictional fruits have also occasionally appeared, such as Heart Fruits in Yoshi's Story. Fruits tend to be a favorite food of Yoshis, something that was established in Yoshi's Story.

Some notable appearances of fruit in general include Super Mario Sunshine, Yoshi Touch & Go, and even a few crossover games such as Nintendo Land and Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

In Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time, there is a round-shaped item named Fruit that appears inside of Yoob's Belly. A Yellow Yoshi eats it to gain the strength to help push a Chomp Rock.

In Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, the Fruit Cup was added in as part of the Booster Course Pass.
